Before Busby, the record was held by William Cuff, a legendary Everton manager from the early 20th century. He also finished second four times, albeit not consecutively, before eventually winning the title.

Currently, Mikel Arteta is positioned to surpass both predecessors. No other manager in the @Premier League has finished second four times in a row. While Busby, Arsène Wenger, and Don Revie (Leeds) each achieved three consecutive runner-up finishes, all of them secured titles either before or after those streaks.
