Hydropower projects in Uttarakhand face potential risks of destruction and massive financial losses due to climate change-linked extreme weather events, a new study by Climate Risk Horizons.
Cumulatively, at least 15 projects with a capacity of 10,678 MW representing `70,150.30 crore of investment could be at high-risk locations in Uttarakhand,” the study said, assessing indicators like climate impacts, stressors such as seismic activity, landslides to identify vulnerable river basin areas.
These projects are spread across Joshimath-Srinagar, which the analysis said was the most vulnerable region, followed by Tehri-Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh-Bageshwar. These regions are particularly vulnerable to seismic activity.

There are fears that Argentina's exit could trigger a domino effect and may cause other countries to reconsider their own participation.
This could undermine world climate goals.
