New York City Plans to Significantly Increase Idling Fines for Trucks and Buses ❗️
A bill has been introduced in the New York City Council that would significantly increase fines for trucks and buses that idle their engines for more than 3 minutes.
Proposed fines:
$1,000–$2,000 for a first offense
Up to $4,000 for a second offense
Up to $6,000 for a third offense
Current fines range from $350 to $2,000.
The bill would also prohibit buses from idling at route terminals when the air temperature is above 40°F (≈4°C).
New York City residents would still be able to report violations through the city's citizen reporting program and receive a cash reward if a truck or bus idles for more than 3 minutes (or more than 1 minute near schools).
The City Council committee is scheduled to review the bill on October 20.

U.S. Diesel Fuel Prices Drop to $5.257 per Gallon
📌 The national average diesel fuel price fell by 9.1 cents to $5.257 per gallon for the week ending August 10, according to the EIA. This ended a three-week streak of rising prices. However, the current price remains $1.503 per gallon higher than a year ago.

Virginia to Conduct 48-Hour Enforcement Blitz on I-64 ❗️
On August 20–21, the Virginia State Police will conduct Operation DISS-RUPT along the entire 299-mile stretch of I-64.
Officers will increase enforcement targeting speeding, distracted driving and cellphone use, impaired driving, and seat belt violations.
Virginia’s Hands-Free Law prohibits drivers from holding a cellphone while operating a vehicle.
The maximum posted speed limit on Virginia’s interstate highways is 70 mph.
Similar enhanced enforcement operations are also planned for I-95, I-81, and I-66.

Starting September 1, truck drivers in Colorado will be required to carry tire chains❗️
From September 1 through May 31, commercial vehicles weighing more than 16,000 lb must carry tire chains or approved alternative traction devices on several mountain highways.
The requirement applies to the following sections:
🔺 I-70 west of mile marker 259 (Morrison) to the Utah border
🔺 Colorado Highway 9 from mile marker 63 to mile marker 97 (Frisco to Fairplay)
🔺 Route 40 from mile marker 256 (Empire) to the Utah border
🔺 U.S. Route 50 from mile marker 225 (Salida) to the Utah border
🔺 U.S. Route 160 from mile marker 304 (Walsenburg) to the New Mexico border
🔺 U.S. Route 285 from mile marker 250 (Morrison) to the New Mexico border
🔺 All of U.S. Route 550
Fines:
