Overall, men dedicate more time to leisure activities, whereas women spend substantially longer on household tasks. Watching TV, videos and listening to the radio is by far the most common leisure activity for both genders, while cooking and washing represent the most time-consuming household chore, particularly among women.
Looking first at leisure activities, watching TV, videos and listening to the radio occupies the largest share of time for both men and women, at 137 and 118 minutes per day respectively. Reading accounts for a relatively small proportion of leisure time, with men and women spending 18 and 19 minutes on this activity. Men also devote slightly more time to sport, averaging 15 minutes daily, compared with 11 minutes for women.
Turning to household activities, women spend considerably more time than men on most tasks. In particular, they allocate nearly 75 minutes per day to cooking and washing, more than double the figure for men, at around 30 minutes. Women also spend approximately 35 minutes shopping and 30 minutes washing and ironing clothes, whereas the corresponding figures for men are about 25 and 10 minutes. Repairs are the only activity dominated by men, who spend around 20 minutes per day on this task, compared with just 10 minutes for women.
