October is when the coast catches its breath. We spent a week there, and this is what we found.
🌳 Truffles in the Pollino: a morning in the beech woods with Vincenzo Caruso, a truffle hunter and his dog. Vincenzo runs tours of Calabria; message @calabriaincabriolet to book. 🍋 The citron: film, tasting and a walk through the citron grove at the Museo del Cedro (@museodelcedro) in Santa Maria del Cedro. 🧺 Scalea market, every Monday. 🫒 The olive harvest in Marcellina, just outside Santa Maria del Cedro, with Vera Italia (www.veraitalia.it): from picking to the first new oil on bread, thanks to Chiara and Stefania.
🎉 Next weekend: the Citron Harvest Festival, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November in the old town of Santa Maria del Cedro. Saturday at 16:30 the historic parade and at 20:00 the Blessing of the Harvest; Sunday at 21:00 prizes for the biggest and most beautiful citron. Free entry. Info: Museo del Cedro, +39 353 346 8404.
