๐Ÿ“Œ The Syrian government confirmed the detention of German journalist Eva Maria Michelmann, who went missing in January during military operations in Raqqa, according to the Associated Press.

๐Ÿ“Œ Authorities said Michelmann and Kurdish-Turkish journalist Ahmed Polad were found in a former SDF facility without documents, initially claiming to be UN aid workers โ€” a claim later deemed false.

๐Ÿ“Œ The AP reported that the Information Ministry said in a statement that they later attempted to escape and were detained again on โ€œsuspicions that they may be foreign fighters present in Syria illegally.โ€

๐Ÿ“Œ The statement reportedly said that the two were โ€œformally detained, and legal proceedings have been initiated in preparation for referral to the competent judicial authorities.โ€

๐Ÿ“Œ The German Foreign Office said last week that it had been in touch with the detained journalist but did not give further details, citing privacy rules.
