LEO School Students Lead Climate Action πŸŒπŸ’š

Climate change isn't just something we teachβ€”it's something our students actively engage with, research, and find solutions for.
Our recent Climate Action Competition brought together students aged 5-17 to tackle sustainability challenges at every level.

Key Stage 1 (Ages 5-7): Recycling Superheroes πŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈ
Our youngest students created colourful recycling posters and designed superheroes with special environmental powers. Through creativity, they learned what recycling means and why it matters.

Key Stage 2 (Ages 7-11): Research Meets Creativity πŸ”
Students combined artistic posters with real research, discovering facts like:

-Plastic bottles take 450 years to decompose
-Recycling saves trees and protects forests
-Proper waste sorting protects animal habitats

Key Stage 3 (Ages 11-14): Solution-Focused Thinking πŸ’‘
Students delivered 5-8 minute presentations on renewable energy, fast fashion, food waste, sustainable cities, or ocean pollutionβ€”proposing realistic solutions backed by evidence.

Key Stage 4-5 (Ages 14-17): Critical Analysis πŸ“
Our oldest students wrote analytical essays evaluating complex questions: Can individual actions matter without systemic change? Does green technology create new problems? Is it too late to prevent climate catastrophe?

Why This Matters:
Climate education shouldn't be passive. Our students didn't just read about environmental issuesβ€”they:
βœ… Researched credible sources
βœ… Analyzed complex problems
βœ… Proposed realistic solutions
βœ… Communicated ideas clearly
βœ… Took ownership of their learning

From our Headteacher, Miss Waywell:
"Your creativity, research, and genuine passion for sustainability have been truly inspiring. You've demonstrated the kind of thinking, questioning, and problem-solving our world desperately needs."

At LEO School, education prepares students for exams AND for life.

Award-Winning ESL Teacher Joining LEO School! πŸŒŸπŸ“š

We're thrilled to introduce Miss Raggett, who joins our teaching team next week to support our younger ESL students!

Miss Raggett brings over 20 years of primary teaching experience and is a Silver Winner of the Pearson National Teaching Awardβ€”one of the UK's most prestigious teaching honours.

With a BEd (Hons) in Primary Education specialising in English and Early Years from the University of Gloucestershire, Beth has dedicated her career to helping children thrive as they learn English as an additional language.

We asked Miss Raggett about her teaching journey:
πŸ’š What do you love most about teaching ESL?
"I love seeing children's enthusiasm and confidence as they become more fluent in a second language. When they're young, they're willing to take part and have a go even while still learningβ€”that courage is beautiful."

πŸ‘©β€πŸ« When did you know you wanted to teach?
"I've wanted to be a teacher since I was about 8 years oldβ€”I wanted to follow in my mum's footsteps. She was also a primary school teacher."

✨ What keeps teaching interesting after 20+ years?
"I love the balance of using new approaches alongside tried-and-tested methods. New resources, new ways of learning like online educationβ€”it keeps things interesting and challenging."

🎯 How do you adapt lessons for different learners?
"I use varietyβ€”actions, songs, stories, real objectsβ€”and encourage participation as much as possible. I find out early what engages each learner and plan lessons with something for everyone."

🌈 What's your secret teaching habit?
"Praise, praise, praise! It goes a long way in encouraging children to make progress and feel confident."

πŸŽ“ Your teaching style in one sentence?
"I'm passionate about inspiring a love of learning and delivering engaging lessons that enable pupils to thrive."

Welcome to LEO School! Our younger ESL learners are in wonderful hands πŸŽ‰

Online School = No Extracurriculars?

One of the biggest concerns parents have about online education:
"Will my child miss out on extracurricular activities and personal development?"
Short answer: Not at LEO School.

Meet one of our students who just achieved excellent results in her LAMDA examination (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art)β€”a prestigious qualification in drama, public speaking, and communication.

She prepared, practiced, and presented confidently in a structured assessment environmentβ€”all while studying online.
This isn't an exception. It's what happens when online education is done properly.

Why Extracurriculars Matter:
Education isn't just exams. Students need opportunities to:
βœ” Build confidence
βœ” Develop public speaking skills
βœ” Express ideas creatively
βœ” Work toward personal goals
βœ” Prepare for university interviews & future careers
LAMDA qualifications support all of thisβ€”and they're recognized worldwide.

We offer:
🎭 Drama & LAMDA
πŸ† Introduction to Computer Programming
🎨 Introduction to App Design & Development
🌍 Modern Foreign Languages
πŸ“š Structured British curriculum alongside personal growth

Online education doesn't limit opportunities.
At LEO School, academic success and personal growth go hand in handβ€”because education should prepare students for life, not just exams.
Congratulations to our student on her LAMDA achievement! πŸŽ‰

Meet Mrs. Clarke β€” a passionate, experienced primary school teacher who has dedicated her career to doing exactly that. 🌱

For Mrs. Clarke, no two students are ever the same β€” and no two lessons should be either. She adapts everything: the pace, the activities, the visual aids, the vocabulary practice. Whether a child needs more time to find their confidence or is ready to be stretched and challenged further, she meets them exactly where they are.

When a new student joins her class, her first question isn't "what do they know?" β€” it's "who are they?" She takes the time to understand how a child feels about learning, how brave they're feeling that day, and how much encouragement they need to take that first step. Because confidence and curiosity go hand in hand, and you can't rush either.

πŸ—£οΈ For children learning English, she knows that pronunciation is often the biggest hurdle. So she builds it into games, listening activities, and spoken tasks β€” layering repetition in a way that feels fun, not forced. Watching a child's confidence grow from silence to speaking? That never gets old.

And even online, the connection is real. Her students show her their favourite toys, their drawings, their little worlds β€” and through that, she gets to know them not just as learners, but as people. That bond makes all the difference.

In her own words: "I create a warm, happy atmosphere where young children feel safe, happy, and free to learn with confidence."

Because the little moments are everything. A shy hand raised for the first time. A word pronounced perfectly after weeks of practice. A child who arrives nervous and leaves proud. πŸ™Œ

That is what great teaching looks like. And your child deserves nothing less.

🌍 Happy International Earth Day!

Every year on 22 April, the world pauses to remember something important β€” the planet we share, and the responsibility we have to protect it.

At LEO School, our teachers brought Earth Day into the classroom. Students wrote essays, created artwork and shared their visions for a greener, kinder world.

Reading their ideas and seeing their creativity reminded us of something we already knew: the future is in good hands. 🌱
