For everyone joining Left of the Dial for the first time (and hundreds of you are!), we’ll use this week to go over the basic rules of the festival. Also useful for regulars with a bad memory, not so useful for our most loyal followers, but hey, we gotta fill those long weeks before the first lineup announcement!

Very much a recycled rule as we posted almost the exact same thing last year. However judging from the ongoing bashing of other generations, still as relevant as ever!

We’ll probably be using cute animal pictures as a marketing tool even more this year, but that’s the only animal exploiting we’ll do. We don’t want to tell anyone how to live their lives, and if you want to eat meat, there are plenty of options in Rotterdam, but we just love animals way too much to think of them as dinner. And since it’s our festival and we can do whatever we want, we decided to make all backstage catering vegan.

When a festival announces their lineup, sometimes all you see is people commenting which OTHER bands they’d prefer to see. How rude. As if the announced artists aren’t good enough. If you don’t like the lineup, just don’t buy a ticket. Or organise your own festival. Now, at Left of the Dial we pride ourselves in finding the best new artists and chances are you haven’t heard of any of them yet. But all those artists are watching the lineup announcement with great anticipation and they really don’t need to hear that you more interested in some other band. They want to hear that you’re looking forward to getting to know them, so give them some well-deserved pre-festival love!

A very simply rule to live your life by in general: if it’s inflatable, you can hug it, no questions asked. If it’s made of flesh and blood you’ll need consent first.
The inflatable tube guys, the skydancers, the wappermannen. Whatever you want to call them and however much you might hate them, they’re part of Left of the Dial and they don’t mind being hugged, danced with or photographed. Just be careful and leave them as happily waving as you found them!
