افتخار بزرگی‌ست که برای دومین بار این جایزه با ارزش را دریافت می‌کنم. از اعضای آکادمی، گروهم در ایران، تهیه‌کننده‌ام الکساندر ماله‌-گی و پخش‌کنندگانم کوهن مدیا و آمازون تشکر می‌کنم. همچنین سپاسگزارم از همبستگی دیگر کاندیداهای بهترین فیلم خارجی.

متاسفم که امشب در کنار شما نیستم، من به احترام مردم کشورم و شش کشور دیگر که با قانون غیرانسانی منع ورود مهاجران مورد بی‌احترامی واقع شدند به آمریکا نیامدم.
تقسیم‌بندی جهان به ما و دشمنان ما توسط سیاستمداران افراطی، باعث ترس می‌شود، ترسی که توجیهی‌ست دروغین برای خشونت‌ها و جنگ‌ها. جنگ‌هایی که مانع بزرگی بوده‌اند برای رسیدن به دموکراسی و رعایت حقوق بشر در کشورهایی که مورد تهاجم واقع شده‌اند.

سینماگران می‌توانند با چرخش دوربین‌هایشان به مشترکات انسانی، کلیشه‌هایی که از ملیت‌ها و ادیان مختلف ساخته شده است را بشکنند و زمینه‌ همدردی و به دنبال آن همبستگی مردمان جهان را فراهم کنند. همدردی چیزی‌ست که ما امروز بیشتر از هر زمان به آن نیازمندیم.

I’m sorry I'm not with you tonight. My absence is out of respect for people of my country and those of other six nations whom have been disrespected by the inhumane law that bans entry of immigrants to the U.S. Dividing the world into the us and the enemy categories creates fear, a deceitful justification for regression and war. These wars prevent democracy and human rights in countries in which have themselves have been victims of aggression.

Filmmakers can turn their cameras to capture shared human qualities and break stereotypes of various nationalities and religions. They create empathy between us and others. An empathy we need today more than ever.
