Meaning:
A mean person, scoundrel

Аdjective:
подлый [ podlyj ] mean, vile, sneaky

Origin:
🔻In the old days, in Polish, the word 'подлец' simply meant a person of ignoble origin.

🔻In Russian, 'подлец' changed its original meaning and began to mean 'a vile person capable of low acts'.
The word was used as a term, without any abusive connotation.

🔻Nowadays 'подлец' is a “cultural” curse word, however, it is offensive and insulting.
