🍯 The Russian Пряник is a 1,000-year-old sweet
Did you know?
• Пряник (пряники) (masc.noun)
[prya-nik (prya-ni-ki)]
Gingerbread
The famous Russian пряник started as something much simpler:
👍 9th century: Vikings brought the recipe to Russia. It was called медовый хлеб (honey bread) - just rye flour, berry juice, and lots of honey (almost half the dough!).
👍 12th–13th centuries: Spices arrived from India and the Middle East – cinnamon, cloves, cardamom. That's when it got its name: пряник comes from the adjective пряный [prya-nyj] spicy.
👍 At first, spices were so expensive that пряники were a true delicacy, even served at the Tsar's table .
🔸 Soon, every Russian region developed its own traditions - from hand-sculpted animal-shaped kozuli in the North to the famous printed Tula pryanik with jam or condensed milk inside .
🎁 Today, it's a beloved symbol of Russian cuisine - just like the balalaika or samovar!

🚀71st anniversary of the founding of the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
👨🚀On June 2, 1955, by a directive of the General Staff of the USSR Ministry of Defense, the organizational and staffing structure of the 5th Research Test Range was approved, and military unit 11284 was established. From that day began the history of the world's first cosmodrome.
👨🚀On October 4, 1957, the first artificial Earth satellite was launched from Baikonur, and on April 12, 1961, the first cosmonaut of the planet, Yuri Gagarin, took off from its pad.
👨🚀Today, Baikonur remains Russia’s main space harbor, from which manned and cargo spacecraft are launched. Every new liftoff from its site continues the great history that opens humanity’s path to the stars.

Guests of St. Petersburg rented an apartment and got a surprise!
• Снимать (снять) квартиру посуточно
[sni-mat' (snyat') kvar-ti-ru pa-soo-tach-na]
To rent an apartment for daily rent
🔻 There was a note from the owners on the windowsill. It said that a little cat lives on the roof and can be fed. They even left food and a bowl for that.
🔻 The cat showed up right on schedule. He came to the window and started peering inside attentively, waiting for his breakfast.
🐱 It was clear that this ritual had long become a habit for him.

The messy truth behind "Катавасия"!
🔻 The correct spelling of the word is:
• Катавасия (femin.noun, no plural)
[ka-ta-va-si-ya]
Chaos, fuss, mess
На работе сегодня полная катавасия!
There's total chaos at work today!
🔻 But here's a surprise:
❌ It has nothing to do with cats – not even a cat named Василий (Vasily)!
✅ It comes from Greek katabasís (κατάβασις) = going down, descent.
🔻 In church singing, катавасия was a hymn where two choirs would come down from left and right and meet in the middle of the church.
But… seminary students often messed it up – singing off-key, bumping into each other, total disorder. So the word shifted from a hymn to a complete mess.
Now you know, when life is chaotic, just say:

😺 Larry the cat escaped from Downing Street before Zelensky's arrival for the third time.
About 20 minutes after the start of the meeting of the E3 leaders, the cat left Prime Minister residence and headed to the neighboring territory, where the British Foreign Ministry building is located.
On this day, negotiations were taking place at Downing Street involving British Prime Minister Kira Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Zelensky was due to join the meeting later.

The "Oreshnik" attraction has been launched at Divo Ostrov.
🚀This extreme new ride is designed as a rocket and is fully painted in the colors of the Russian tricolor.
🚀The operating principle of the attraction is simple and harsh: first, the cabin is smoothly lifted to a height, after which the rocket goes into free fall. Thrill-seekers will definitely appreciate it.
