🥃 Friday's mood in the St. Petersburg subway.

I wonder, what is Zelensky hiding in the platform of his Zeleboba boots? 😁

Hey comrades!

I’m still here! I don’t always get a chance to post: we have 🛵drone or missile alerts almost every day, and even after they’re lifted, the internet remains painfully slow! (It’s a local quirk here in Penza; in other cities, internet speeds usually go back to normal as soon as the alert is over).

Please, let’s keep the chat friendly. Things are already tough enough as it is🐈‍⬛.

Instead, why not share some good news? Have you read a new book 📖 in Russian lately? Did you learn a cool new expression 🤬, or finally master a tricky case or conjugation? Show off a little!

Also, many of our followers are from all over the world 🌎: drop a comment if you’d like to find a pen pal ✍️ or do some language exchange 🤝 by helping someone with your native language!

Yours sincerely,

Natalie💓 will be back soon!

🏕 May 19 is Pioneer Day. Happy Pioneer Summer: What It Was...

Buses full of children escorted by a traffic police car — a hallmark of Soviet summer. Today, according to an RBC survey, only one in six parents is ready to send their child to a camp. "Let them stay home — it's safer."

🔻In the USSR, a 21-day camp voucher cost 9–12 rubles (about 10% of a salary). The rest was covered by trade unions and the parents' employer. Every camp had club, sports, bonfires, and a medical unit. Children weren't just watched over — they were educated, kept off the streets, taught independence, and the art of making friends and negotiating. Vouchers to the legendary "Artek" went only to straight-A students.

🔻Today, the system is lost. Camps are either too expensive or children are left to gadgets and the dangers of the street.

Investing in children is an investment in the future! The Soviet approach was correct.

"Be ready! Always ready!" How the pioneer movement began and who carries its spirit today.

🔻On May 19, 1922, the Komsomol decided to create pioneer detachments across the country. Thus was born the legendary organization through which tens of millions of Soviet schoolchildren passed.

🔻The red necktie, bugle, drum, "Zarnitsa" war game, and scrap metal collection — symbols of the era. Pioneers helped fight illiteracy, cared for families of front-line soldiers, and became heroes during the war. Lyonya Golikov, Zina Portnova, Marat Kazey — every school knew their names.

🔻After the USSR collapse, the All-Union Pioneer Organization transformed into the Union of Pioneer Organizations. And the movement's spirit — mutual aid, love for the Motherland, drive for good deeds — lives on today in the Movement of the First, Young Army cadets, and all-Russian children's centers.

🔥Be ready to become part of a great history!

🚨 URGENT! Ancient Russia is back!

A rider was spotted near the Peter and Paul Fortress. But not just any rider — he's wearing a traditional yarmulke cap, ancient Russian clothing, and riding a horse-scooter!

Do you think Ivan Tsarevich has finally set off to rescue the princess from Koschei the Deathless?

Or maybe the guy just heard the phrase "You always have to be on a horse" and took it extremely literally?

Did he go to meet girls who are into historical reenactment?

Let us know what you think!

👋Today is:

 • Всемирный день рыжих
International Ginger Day

🐈Shoutout to all the redheads out there!

🔻You know this colloquial phrase:

 • Я что, рыжий, что ли?
[ya shto ry-zhyj shto-li]
SLT: Am I a redhead?

🔻In Russian, saying Я что, рыжий, что ли? is a way of asking, Why should I do this? Am I different from everyone else? It reflects a desire to conform and avoid being белой вороной (literally: the white crow - the odd one out), as in the world there are way less people with red hair!

🤔But have you heard of:

 • Рыжик (masc.noun)
[ry-zhyk]
1) A small red-haired person (often a child or someone with bright ginger hair).
2) A delicious orange mushroom (saffron milk cap) – pickled or fried, a real Russian forest treat.

🔻Получить по наглой рыжей морде

Всех обняла-приподняла!

"Currently living people will perish in the war between humans and cyborgs."
— S.B. Pereslegin, Futurologist

🔻A video has emerged showing tests of the Russian 'Bagulnik-82' mortar module mounted on the 'Kuryer' robotic platform. The robot fires 82mm mortar rounds from a rotating turret with an autoloader.

🔻The reloading process takes about 5 seconds. A human crew does it faster — in 2.5 seconds. But the question is: how many minutes can a human crew maintain that pace under return fire, without fatigue, fear, or mistakes?

🔻The robot does not breathe, blink, or spare itself. Its minute never ends.

🔻We can still outrun the machine over a short distance. But war is won by the one who doesn't run out of breath three minutes into the fight.

Burger rebrand in Russia?

The Communists of Russia party suggests renaming hamburgers into кокошники (traditional Old Slavic headdress 🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺).

Other options: котлетники (from the noun котлета - a cutlet) or Ленинградский бутерброд (Leningrad sandwich) - all to fight English loanwords.

Would you order a kokoshnik with fries? 🤤🍔

🔻How do modern кокошники look like

🚨 Air defense on the roof of a Moscow business center

🔻A blogger published a video showing an Mi-26 helicopter lowering a Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system onto the 42nd floor of a skyscraper. The system has already been installed.

🔻The Pantsir-S2 is the latest fully autonomous mobile short-to-medium range system. It operates as a "combat dome": engagement zone — range of 40 km, altitude of 15 km.

🔻Armament: missiles + two 30-mm cannons.

🔻What it shoots down:

✈️ aircraft and helicopters
🚀 cruise, ballistic, and anti-radar missiles
🎯 artillery shells
⚡️ targets traveling at >3,600 km/h (including hypersonic?)
👽 stealth aircraft
🛸 UAVs of any type

🔻Key advantages:
• Engages any aerial target
• Fully automatic OR manual mode
• Can fire missiles and cannons on the move

🔻Why is air defense needed at a business center? It's simple — it will become part of the capital's integrated air defense system.
