If ChatGPT were performing surgery...
- But why is my scar on the left, if appendicitis is on the right?
- You are absolutely correct, and excellent observation! I will now re-perform the operation on the correct side.

🔻These adverbs of place refer to a static position or location on the right/left side:

Справа
[spra-va]
On the right

Слева
[sle-va]
On the left

Flashback to October 1863: Russian sailors of the Varyag corvette in New York, captured in this historic photo by Matthew Brady.

🔻It seems almost unbelievable today, but there was a time when Russia and the United States shared a bond of mutual respect. Russian sailors visiting America were greeted with applause, and the St. Andrew's flag proudly flew on the shores of the Potomac.

🔻The Varyag corvette itself was dispatched by Emperor Alexander II during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Its mission? To assist President Lincoln's government and protect New York from potential attacks by Southern forces and an Anglo-French squadron.

🔻A powerful historical snapshot, reminding us of different times and enduring diplomatic ideals. 🇺🇸🇷🇺

🖤Black party in Russia is like:

Если ты устал - пей пиво!
If you're tired - drink beer!
If you're happy - drink beer!
Or just because - drink beer!
...

Geopolitics, аccording to an Аmur tiger.

🔻A Chinese drivers in Jilin province had a rather unexpected encounter: with our very own Amur tiger. This striped diplomat apparently decided to take a visa-free stroll into China.

🔻Are things so bad in Russia that even the tigers are defecting? Well, as Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin said:

Границы России нигде не заканчиваются.
Russia's borders don't end anywhere.
Russia has no borders.

🔻But amidst all these human interpretations, the Amur tiger himself, looking into the wide eyes of the Chinese motorists and perhaps licking his chops, probably just wanted to clarify the quickest route back home and grab a quick bite for the journey.

🔻So, next time you see a wild animal crossing a border, perhaps it's not a geopolitical statement, but simply a hungry traveller looking for directions.

2 / to sit:

🔻Like many common verbs, сидеть has a surprising depth of meanings, extending far beyond the simple act of taking a seat:

[si-det' na she-ye]
SLT: To sit on someone's neck
To live off someone / to be a burden

[si-det' kak vli-toy]
SLT: to sit like poured in
To fit perfectly / to fit like a glove

    [si-det' kak na i-gol-kakh]
SLT: To sit as if on needles
To be on pins and needles / to be on edge

    [si-det' slo-zha ru-ki]
SLT: To sit with folded hands
To sit idly by / to do nothing

    [si-det' na di-ye-te]

When you've been on a diet for just an hour and you start wondering if you even need that wasp waist.

Here are some answers of Russians to the question what they would tell Americans if they had a chance to do it.

🇷🇺 + 🇺🇸 = ❓️

And I have a question in return:

❓️What would you say to the people of Russia if you had the opportunity to address them?

The Daddy (Папаша) of USSR submachine guns (SG), the bestseller PPSh-41.

🔻PPD-40 were popular in the military, due to their reliability and large stock of cartridges. But they were laborious and difficult to produce.

🔻Designer G.S. Shpagin: 08.26.1940 submitted a prototype of his SG to the A.С. of MMAD. In the design, he summarized the experience of the war with Finland and simplified manufacturing as much as possible.

🔻After numerous tests of prototypes, in 10.1940 comparative firing of new weapons took place: 25 PPSh-41, against 15 SG B. G. Shpitalny and several PPD-40 models.

🔻Shpitalny's weapon showed lower dispersion and greater muzzle velocity, while Shpagin's weapon bribed with simple handling, weight of 3.5 kg a technological advantage. Probably, the latter was crucial, since the production time of the PPSh-41 was 5.5 hours less than that of the PPD. In total 5 mln PPSh-41 units were produced during the GPW.

⚓️ Today marks the anniversary of one of the most epic naval battles of the sailing era: the Battle of Chesma (1770). It was a victory forged against impossible odds!

🔻Imagine sailing 4,500 nautical miles – from the Baltic Sea, around ALL of Europe, through treacherous straits and a hostile Mediterranean swarming with enemy ships, just to reach a battle. The Ottomans literally thought it couldn't be done!

🔻But the Russian fleet, defying every expectation, did it!

🔻The outcome was catastrophic for the Ottomans:
Near total annihilation: Out of their 15 battleships, only ONE survived!
Up to 11,000 Ottoman sailors perished in the inferno.

🔻After the Battle of Chesma, the Russian fleet managed to severely disrupt Turkish communications in the Aegean Sea and establish a blockade of the Dardanelles. All of this played an important role in the conclusion of the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca.
