The grandfather of Soviet submachine guns.

🔻The creation of a 7.62mm submachine gun (SG) of the Degtyarev system (PPD-34, PPD 34/38, PPD-40) in 1934 It begins with official works in 1925.

🔻In 1926, the Artillery Committee approved a draft design for the creation of submachine guns. They chose a 7.63×25 mm Mauser cartridge to unify the production of pistol barrels, submachine guns, and Mosin rifles.

🔻Designer V. A. Degtyarev presented his SG in 1929. Over the course of several years, he improved it until the military was satisfied with the option.

🔻In 1934 The SG was presented to the MMAD commission, along with other developments. According to the test results, the PPD was noted as promising, but sent for revision. In January 1935, an experimental batch of SG was produced, and in July it was adopted by the Red Army.

🔻During the years 1935-1940 The SG was upgraded to PPD-40 based on combat experience.
