During the reign of Emperor Alexander III, a soldier named Oreshkin got drunk in a royal tavern and became disorderly.

🔻When they tried to reason with him, pointing to a portrait of the Emperor, Oreshkin retorted, "I don't give a damn about your Emperor!" He was arrested and charged with insulting the Emperor.

🔻After reviewing the case, the Emperor, finding it trivial, wrote the following resolution:
"Dismiss the case, release Oreshkin, and henceforth forbid hanging my portraits in taverns. Inform Oreshkin that I also don't give a damn about him."

Did you know that history comes to life in Russia in the summer?

🔻From June 11 to June 15 in Moscow, the next festival "Times and Epochs" was held, dedicated to the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. More than 2,250 reenactors from 12 countries prepared scenes from the past on dozens of sites: in parks, on streets and farmsteads.

🔻The program included 20 large-scale battles, historical costumes, camps, crafts and weapons. The guests saw the life of the Scythians, Romans, Rus of the 10th - 13th centuries, the armies of the 17th century, the armies of Suvorov, Kutuzov, the armies of the First and Second World Wars. Not just a show took place at each venue, but a historical reconstruction based on archival data and excavations.

🔻The participants recreated not only the clothes but also the everyday life of their eras. Guests from abroad demonstrated their periods of history.

🥳Today we celebrate:

День Русского Кваса
Russian Kvass Day

🔻Kvass is a traditional fermented beverage from Slavic countries, most notably Russia. It's made from bread, malt, and sometimes fruits or berries.

🔻Before the 12th century, kvass in Russia was stronger and thicker than modern beer. Kvass was considered an alcoholic beverage, and the word квасник was a contemporary synonym for пьяница (drunkard) (also квасить [kva-sit'] meaning to get drunk, is in slang to this day).

🍺Recipe:
☆ 300 grams of Borodinsky bread
☆ a handful of raisins
☆ 2.5 liters of warm boiled water
☆ 50 grams of sugar
☆ Cover and leave in a warm place for 2 days
☆ After 2 days, add 1 tablespoon of honey
☆ Leave for another day
☆ Strain
☆ Enjoy this magnificent drink!

Пробовали со своими?
Have you tried this with yours (your cats)?

🔻These Interjections👇 are used as:
1) responses to someone sneezing
2) as a formal variant to say good-bye

Будь здоров! (addressing to a man)
[but' zda-rov]
=
Будь здорова! (addressing to a woman)
[but' zda-ro-va]
=
Будьте здоровы! (polite/addressing to several people)
[but'-te zda-ro-vy]
SLT: Be healthy
1) (God) Bless you!
2) Good bye! Take care!

🔻These are imperative forms of the verb быть (to be) + short form of the adjective здоровый (masc.), здоровая (femin.), здоровые (plural) meaning healthy.

🤔Why the difference between the Russian and English phrases?

🇬🇧Bless you stems from a long-held belief that sneezing expelled the soul, making the person vulnerable to evil spirits. Saying God bless you! was a way to ward off this perceived danger.

🇷🇺The Russian phrase, while sounding similar to a wish for good health, doesn't carry the same superstitious baggage. It's a simple, polite expression of concern and well-wishing, a gesture of politeness and a wish for continued health, rather than a protection against evil spirits.

🔻By the way, the sound of a sneeze (onomatopoeia) in Russian is written this way:

Апчхи!
[ap-ch-khi]
Achoo!

🎧🗣👇 Будьте здоровы!
