For months now, folk singer Nadezhda Kadysheva has been filling massive concert halls, and her young fans are following her across the country like rock star groupies!

🔻The internet is flooded with videos from her concerts. Something incredible is happening at her performances. The audience enthusiastically sings along to her hits. Young fans, even men, wearing kokoshniks (traditional Russian headdresses), are dancing in the aisles.

🔻This is a unique phenomenon. A few years ago, Kadysheva's audience was mainly comprised of pensioners. Now, she's wildly popular! Tickets are sold out months in advance!

🔻Some critics see this as a kind of fashion trend for all things Russian.

What do you think about it?

Ну что, ещё разок хардкору, товарищи?

🔻The SECOND conjugation in Russian includes verbs ending (in infinitive) in -ИТЬ

Though the following verbs do NOT end in -ИТЬ, they are exceptions and all belong to the SECOND conjugation:

Гнать (to drive, to chase)
Держать (to hold, kееp)
Дышать (to breathe)
Слышать (to hear)
Обидеть (to offend, hurt)
Видеть (to see)
Зависеть (to depend)
Терпеть (to endure, to tolerate)
Вертеть (to twist, to turn)
Ненавидеть (to hate)
Смотреть (to watch)

🔻Present Tense endings (Indicative Mood) (the endings are applied to the verb stem):

1. I ... -У/-Ю
2. You (singular) ... -ИШЬ
3. (S)he/it ... -ИТ
4. We ... -ИМ
5. You (plural/polite) ... -ИТЕ
6. They ... -АТ/-ЯТ

🔻Let's take the SECOND conjugation verb Звонить (to phone) (see the video):

1. Я звон+Ю
2. Ты звон+ИШЬ
3. Он/она/оно звон+ИТ
4. Мы звон+ИМ
5. Вы звон+ИТЕ
6. Они звон+ЯТ

😀 In a few years time the stress will probably be on the first syllable: (он/она) звОнит but not as the standard variant: звонИт.

🔻At least, that's what the Russian Academy of Sciences (РАН) believes.

🔻According to experts, this is a natural evolution of the Russian language: in all verbs ending in -ИТЬ (3rd person, sg, 2nd conjugation), the stress has been gradually shifting to the first syllable over the last 100 years: the verb вклЮчит (he switches on) used to be pronounced with the stress on the second syllable: включИт.

📎 The comments section of this news story exploded with outrage: people are ridiculing the innovation, speculating which official couldn't remember the correct version and decided to change the rule itself.

Крипота (femin.noun)
  [kri-pa-ta]

🔻This is a scary, frightening, and horrible thing, used in modern Russian slang.

🔻The noun comes from the English adjective creepy.

🔻Don't confuse it with the feminine noun крипта [kri-pta], which is a short slang variant for криптовалюта [krip-ta-va-lu-ta] cryptocurrency.

A retro rally commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War has started in Moscow.

🔻Owners of Soviet and foreign cars from the 1950s-1980s gathered at Poklonnaya Hill, from where the motorcade began.
