👋Доброе утро, товарищи!

Мочь 🆚️ Уметь

🔻Both mean can or to be able to, but:

1. Мочь (imperf.)
[moch']
🔻This verb expresses ability or possibility. Think of it as "to have the power to":

• Я могу это сделать.
[ya ma-gu e-ta zde-lat']
I can do this. (I have the ability/power to do this).

2. Уметь (imperf.)
[u-met']
🔻This verb expresses skill or ability gained through learning or practice. Think "to know how to":

Я умею плавать.
[ya u-me-yu pla-vat']
I can swim (I know how to swim).

💢 Also on the Internet there are lots of memes with the phrase:

Могу. Умею. Практикую.
[ma-gu u-me-yu prak-ti-ku-yu]
SLT: I can, I know how, I do.

🔻It's a boastful, almost self-deprecating way of saying someone is skilled at something. But it is often used in a humorous way to say someone can be bad at something, or can easily spoil something:

Разбить все стаканы в доме? Могу. Умею. Практикую.
To break all glasses in the house? I can, I know how, I do.

👋Доброе утро!

Зажмуриться (perf.)
[zazh-mu-ri-tsa]
To shut one's eyes tightly

🔻This verb often implies a brief, involuntary action due to bright light, fear, or discomfort.

🔻More nuanced translations might include to squeeze one's eyes shut, to clamp one's eyes shut (in reaction to something).

🔻Зажмуриться doesn't take a direct object. The action is performed on the subject's own eyes.

💢Also:
Играть в жмурки
[ig-rat' v zhmur-ki]
To play tag (with someone covering their eyes)

🔻It's a children's game where one person is blindfolded (or covers their eyes) and tries to catch the others.

🎧🗣👇 Learn the conjunction of the verb and feel the bright spring sun on your face!

During the Second Chechen War in 2000, a Russian soldier took an AK-47 round to the forehead

🔻The soldier survived the head shot, even finding humor in the situation. He maintained this lighthearted mood while his comrade used pliers to remove the bullet from his forehead.

🔻The shot was likely fired from a long distance, or the bullet may have passed through obstacles, significantly reducing its velocity.

🔻Anyway, the soldier, with his remarkably resilient skull, was nicknamed the "Russian Terminator," after the popular Hollywood cyborg.

Шальная пуля (fem.noun)
[shal'-na-ya pu-lya]
A stray bullet

🔻This is a bullet fired without aiming, that happened to hit a target or passed dangerously close to one by chance.
