The children's song "Sigma Boy," performed by 11-year-old Sveta Chertisheva and 12-year-old Maria Yankovskaya, is taking European charts and social media by storm

🔻Recently, the Italian football club Atalanta posted a meme-worthy video using the song.

🔻Duolingo's owl also shamelessly promoted its language app using the song.

🔻The European Parliament has proposed banning the hit in Europe due to the alleged "propaganda of Russian ideas."

🔻German politician Nela Ril states:
It's a viral Russian video used on social media that conveys patriarchal and pro-Russian worldviews.

🔻Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on Nela Ril's words:
This is clinical Russophobia. You can ban brown bears, ban or isolate the part of the sun that shines on Russia [...] Instead of addressing pressing global issues like hunger, environmental problems [...] the West focuses on the 'clinical manifestation of nationalism.

Sigma is the 18th letter of the Greek alphabet.

🔻In Russia, the idea of a 'sigma male' (Wikipedia) recently emerged: a term from the Internet slang used to describe men who are loners and independent of society.

🔻"The song is too catchy, the girls are too charismatic and too Russian, they dance too infectiously to a too energetic melody. Too much of everything. Russian weapon. Ban it."
The appeal to ban it is not only russophobia, comrades. This seems to be fascism.

Хапуга (хапуги) (common gender)
  [kha-pu-ga (kha-pu-gi)]

🔻A хапуга is a person who grabs or appropriates what belongs to others; a grabber, a pilferer, a greedy person.

🔻It comes from the colloquial verb хапать [ka-pat'] (to grap something greedily even if you don't need this).

🔻This word is often used in reference to bribetakers.

Ты даже не ешь помидоры! Зачем ты их взял, хапуга?!
You don't even eat tomatoes! Why did you take them, you greedy guts! / You grabber!

The tenth anniversary "Ice Moscow. In the Family Circle" festival took place on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow.

🔻This year's theme was "Engineers of Russia." The festival featured a variety of ice sculptures, including depictions of engineering professions and copies of famous Moscow landmarks.

🔻Over 4,500 tons of natural ice from the pristine northern lakes of Yekaterinburg and Khanty-Mansiysk were brought in to build this winter wonderland.

🔻More than 100 sculptors from all corners of Russia worked to create this marvel.

🔻Traditionally, a magnificent ice Kremlin with slides for both children and adults, and a captivating Nativity scene, stood in the center of the square.

It turns out cats swear!

🔻Have you noticed how fluffy cats make funny chattering sounds when they can't reach their desired prey, a bird or an insect?

🔻At that moment, they're experiencing incredibly frustrating emotions. And show them with that funny sounds.

🔻Experts advise showing your pet some sympathy if it starts chattering, as it's experiencing frustration.

ОK, я позже зайду!
OK, I'll drop in later!

👋Доброе утро, товарищи!

Позже 🆚️ попозже 🆚️ потом

🔻These adverbs all relate to time in the future and can be translated as later.

🔢 Позже
[po-zhe]
Later

🔻This is the most general and neutral term, simply meaning "later." It doesn't specify how much later:

Я приду позже.
I'll come later.

🔢 Попозже
[pa-po-zhe
]
А bit later

🔻This word adds the nuance of a little later, soon, or in a short while. It implies a shorter delay than позже. Think of the ПО- prefix as meaning a little:

• Я позвоню тебе попозже.
I'll call you a little later.

🔢 Потом
[pа-tom
]
Аfterwards, eventually

🔻This word implies a less definite, more distant future. It suggests something will happen after something else, but the exact time isn't specified:

Сделаем это потом.
Let's do it afterwards/later.
