🔻The Russian language has three genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter.
🔻You can typically tell the gender of a Russian noun based on its ending:
✅ Masculine: the word ends in a consonant or "й"
кот (cat)
год (year)
чай (tea)
✅ Feminine: the word ends in "а," "я," or "ия"
книга (book)
семья (family)
история (story)
✅ Neuter: the word ends in "о," "е," "ие," or "мя"
письмo (letter)
солнце (sun)
внимание (attention)
время (time)
🔻In general, words with neuter endings all tend to be inanimate things.
🔻Masculine or feminine nouns can both end in "ь":
день (day) (masc.)
жизнь (life) (fem.)
⚠️ And, of course, there are some exceptions:
папа (daddy) (masc.)
дядя (uncle) (masc.)
дедушка (grandfather) (masc.)
мужчина (man) (masc.)
кофе (coffee) (masc. or neuter)
🔻Professions and occupations, whose gender depends on the gender of the person involved.
Врач (doctor) (masc. or femin.)
I've prepared one exercise for you to practice Russian genders here. Just do it😎

Ба́бье ле́то [ ˈbabjye ˈleta ] Indian summer
Why ба́бье (women's)❓
From the words:
▪️Ба́ба [ˈbaba] (colloquial) a woman
▪️Ба́бы [ˈbabɨ/y] women
🍁Autumn warming coincides with the end of field work; at this time, women usually took up household chores and prepared for winter.
🍁In Rus', “Ба́бье ле́то” was also called “Marfа’s summer,” and for women it meant the period of preparing ripened fruits for the winter, that is, “women’s work.”

• Вы́лупиться (perfective, low colloquial, rude)
[ výlupitʹsja ]
Meaning:
1) hatch out
2) But❗in spoken Russian you'll highly likely hear this verb with a different meaning: to star wide-eyed at someone.
When someone doesn't like the way you are looking at him/her, he or she can say: "Чё вылупился?" if you are a male, or "Чё вылупилась?" if you're a female, like 'What are you looking at? Are you messin' with me?'
Чё=Что
⚠️If you hear this, be careful, the other person is showing his/her agression.
• Чё вы́лупился?? (Addressing to a male)
[ chyo výlupilsja ]
• Чё вы́лупилaсь?? (Addressing to a female)
[ chyo výlupilas' ]
