• Достаться на орехи (perf., reflex.)
[das-ta-tsya na a-re-khi]
SLT: To get it on/for the nuts
🔻The phraseological unit has nothing to do with nuts! Its meaning is closer to to get into trouble or to get a scolding.
🔻The idiom originated from the fact that nuts were a popular and affordable treat for children in Russia. Fathers would often give their children a few kopecks to buy nuts on their way home from work. However, if the children misbehaved in their father's absence, their mother would threaten them with the words "Вот отец вернётся, будет вам на орехи!" (When your father gets back, he'll give you (money) for nuts!) hinting, however, at the soon punishment from father but not the money to buy treats.
Example:
• Кому-то достанется на орехи за такие шутки!
[ka-mu-ta das-ta-ni-tsa na a-re-khi za ta-ki-ye shut-ki]
🇬🇧 Someone will get into trouble over jokes like those!

🇷🇺 Не в силе Бог, а в правде. Ибо с той земли, что обагрена кровью воинов наших, не уйдет ни один враг без наказания. Кто с мечом к нам придет, от меча и погибнет — таков закон земли русской. (Aлександр Невский)
🇬🇧 God is not in power, but in truth. For from that land that is stained with the blood of our soldiers, not a single enemy will leave without punishment. Whoever comes to us with a sword will die by the sword - this is the law of the Russian land. (Alexander Nevsky)

🇷🇺 Утро начинается не с кофе. Утро начинается с мысли, что надо было лечь пораньше ...
🇬🇧 Morning doesn’t start with coffee. Morning starts with the thought that it was necessary to go to bed earlier ...
• Пораньше (adverb)
[pa-ran'-she]
=
• Раньше (adverb)
[ran'-she]
(A bit) earlier
🔻Both words come from the adverb 'рано' (early).
🔻'Пораньше' sounds more informal than 'раньше':
• Завтра нужно встать раньше/пораньше.
[zaf-tra nuzh-na fstat' ran'-she/pa-ran'-she]
Tomorrow you need to get up earlier.
🔻Also comparative:
• Мой кот встаёт раньше, чем я.
[moy kot fsta-yot ran'-she chem ya]
My cat gets up earlier than I do.
🔻'Раньше' is also used in reference to past events:
• Раньше я ложился спать до полуночи. (masc.)
[ran'-she ya la-zhyl-sya spat' da pa-lu-na-chi]
I used to go to bed before midnight.

Smolny Cathedral: A Baroque Masterpiece in St. Petersburg
🔻Smolny Cathedral is a stunning example of Baroque architecture and a must-see for any visitor to St. Petersburg.
🔻The foundation stone of the Smolny Monastery was laid on 30 October 1748. The ceremony was crowned with 101 volleys from 20 cannons.
🔻The Resurrection Novodevichy Smolny Monastery is a women's monastery.
🔻Thanks to Rastrelli's distinctive outlook, Smolny Monastery was created as a non-standard interpretation of Baroque - unlike European "façade" styles, Smolny was intended to be viewed from all sides.
🔻Smolny Cathedral became a kind of "record-holder" - no building in St. Petersburg was built so long - 87 years! This number is inextricably linked to the history of the cathedral - for 87 years, services were held in the cathedral and for 87 years it stood closed.
🔻 Its stunning beauty and fascinating story will leave a lasting impression.
📍Geoposition: St Petersburg, Russia
