The Art Residency of Princess Tenisheva in Talashkino, Smolensk Oblast
🔻Princess Maria Tenisheva played a significant role in the development of the Neo-Russian style and Russian art during the Silver Age.
🔻Tenisheva's unwavering commitment to preserving traditional Russian crafts and folk art led her to amass an extensive collection of ancient artifacts. The completeness of her collection allowed scholars to trace the evolution of Russia's oldest artistic centers.
🔻To foster the preservation and development of traditional crafts, Tenisheva established a school for peasant children and a center for folk art. In addition to basic literacy, the school offered artistic workshops.
🔻Products from Tenisheva's workshops were showcased at exhibitions in Russia and abroad. At the Paris Exposition Talashkino embroidery quickly became fashionable, with Parisian women eagerly adopting "à la russe" blouses.

In 1941, a vodka ration was introduced in the USSR for the troops of the Red Army.
🔻Frontline units and commanders were entitled to receive 100 grams of vodka or rectified spirit per day. The spirit was diluted to the strength of vodka and issued based on the intended dilution, a ratio of 1:2.
🔻The vodka ration was soon curtailed; vodka was issued to everyone before an offensive and only as a reward to successfully advancing units.
🔻German soldiers received schnapps from their commanders. In 1942, they received half a bottle every day and a half, regardless of success. In 1943, this was reduced to only Sundays. From mid-1944 onwards, receiving schnapps became a cause for gloom among German soldiers, as it signaled their imminent deployment to a hopeless counterattack against Russian positions.
