Nikolai Miklouho-Maclay, a great Russian traveler, supported by the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, set off to the islands of the Pacific Ocean and opened the world to New Guinea.
🔻Nikolai, being in his student years, helped in the hospital. He nursed a girl there who became his first love.
But he was unable to save the beautiful woman.
🔻She bequeathed her skull to her beloved, from which he later made a nice lamp with a green shade and carried it with him on all his travels, in memory of his first love.

🇷🇺 Я разленился, посоловел и опять впадаю в хандру. Не работаю. Сижу по целым дням на кресле и гляжу в потолок.
🇬🇧 I've become lazy, sluggish, and I'm slipping into melancholy again. I'm not working. I sit in a chair all day staring at the ceiling.
From Anton Pavlovich Chekhov's letters.
