Cypress Lake: A hidden gem in Russia's Black Sea coast

🔻Sukko Valley, on the outskirts of which cypresses grow directly in the water, is located near Anapa, 40 meters above sea level.

🔻Due to the dam built in 1935 on the river, a 8-hectare Cypress Lake was created.

🔻The origin of the cypress trees on the reservoir is not precisely established. Perhaps the trees were planted by natives of California.

🔻There is another hypothesis about cypress seeds brought from Mexico in the 1930s, which were planted as an experiment in the forest zone, and after the dam on the river, the trees were flooded.

🔻Whether you're looking to reconnect with nature, enjoy a peaceful walk, or simply admire the beauty of ancient trees, Cypress Lake in Sukko is a must-visit destination.

📍 Geoposition: Krasnodar Region, Russia

🇷🇺 Однажды придворный вельможа, заметив у Михаила Ломоносова небольшую дыру в кафтане, из которой выглядывала рубаха, ехидно заметил:
— Видно, учёность, сударь, оттуда выглядывает?
— Нисколько, — ответил Ломоносов, — глупость туда заглядывает.
🇬🇧 Once, a nobleman at court, noticing a small hole in Mikhail Lomonosov's coat, from which his shirt peeked out, sarcastically remarked:
— It seems, sir, that your scholarship is peeking out from there?
— Not at all, — answered Lomonosov, — it's stupidity peeking in.

📎 Mikhail Lomonosov developed the "Russian Grammar" in 1755, which significantly influenced the development of the Russian literary language. He distinguished 30 letters in the Russian alphabet, defined eight parts of speech, six cases, ten verb tenses, three moods and six voices.
😉You see how lucky you are to learn modern Russian grammar, not that one of 1755.

Обломать (perf.)
[ab-la-mat']

Обломаться (perf.; reflexive)
[ab-la-ma-tsa]

1⃣The literal meaning of "обломать" is to break something, usually by bending or snapping it.

• Я обломал ветку дерева.
I broke a branch off the tree.

2⃣"Обломать" can also mean to ruin someone's plans or to spoil their mood:

Извини, но я обломал тебе все планы своей болезнью.
Sorry, but I ruined all your plans with my sickness.

3⃣This is where things get a bit more nuanced. "Обломаться" in this context means to feel disappointed or let down, often because something didn't go as expected:

Я так обломался, когда узнал, что концерт отменили.
I was so disappointed when I found out the concert was canceled.

Котейка обломал или обломался?

Earlier this fall, Putin’s propaganda machine managed to distract Russians with the topic of quadrobers—people identifying as four-legged creatures. But now, with the first snow on the ground and temperatures dipping below freezing, the quadrobers are off the streets. And the populace is once again demanding London be bombed to pieces.

🔻In Russia, there's a tradition of wearing costumes for New Year's morning performances in kindergarten and elementary school. Children can dress up as their favourite characters from (animated) movies, fairy tales, or simply animals (cats, dogs etc).

Yekaterinburg (see the video) has started selling half-meter shawarma, which is "easily enough to feed a group of friends".

Шаурма [sha-ur-ma]
Шаверма [sha-ver-ma] (in St Petersburg)
Шавуха [sha-vu-kha] (colloquial)
Шава [sha-va] (colloquial)

🔻Шаурма is a popular street food in Russia, but did you know it actually originated in the Middle East? It was brought to Russia by immigrants in the 1990s and quickly gained popularity.

🔻In Russia, a popular variation of shawarma uses:
Lavash: A thin, flatbread
Marinated spicy carrot: This adds a kick of flavor and sweetness
Fried chicken: Usually marinated and seasoned
Cucumber: Adds a refreshing crunch
Ketchup and mayonnaise: Classic condiments that add richness and tang
French Fries: to make even more nutritious

🔻Doctors consider shawarma to be a healthy meal: the combination of a large amount of vegetables, meat, and a small amount of bread contains ingredients for a healthy diet.

Do you have a similar snack in your country?
