🔢🔢🔢 Cognate words to 'Папа' (father, dad, daddy):

🔻You all know these masculine nouns:
Папа [pa-pa]
And
Отец (official style) [a-tets]

🔻There is a colloquial form, which might have been derived from the ancient Slavic root 'бат-', meaning elder or chief:

батя [ba-tya]

🔻Some modern deminutive  forms:
папочка [pa-pach-ka]
папуля [pa-pu-lya]

🔻Also some derogatory forms:
папка [pap-ka]
папаня [pa-pa-nya]
папаша [pa-pa-sha]
папашка [pa-pash-ka]

🔻Adjectives:
Отеческий [a-te-chi-skiy]
  Referring to father

По-отечески [pa-a-te-chi-ski]
  Fatherly, paternal

🔻Interestingly, 'отечество' [a-te-ci-stvo] (fatherland) also stem from the word отец.

🔻In Russia, a person's name was traditionally followed by the name of their father: Иван Яков сын (Ivan Yakov's son). This is where the tradition of using patronymics, in addition to the first name, originated.

In the 18th century, the police in Russia not only maintained order in the city, but also performed a number of economic functions.

🔻They were responsible for the city's beautification - paving streets, draining swamps, collecting garbage, etc.

🔻Through the efforts of the police, the first streetlights and benches for rest were installed in St. Petersburg in 1721.

🔻A fire department was organized.

🔻In addition, the police had the powers of a judicial authority and could impose punishments in criminal cases.

Baba Yaga: The Enigmatic Witch of Russian Folklore

Баба Яга (костяная нога)
[ba-ba ya-ga (kas-tya-na-ya na-ga)]

🔻Баба Яга (or sometimes just Яга /Ягуся (demin.) is a complex and fascinating figure in Russian folklore, a powerful witch who lives in a hut on chicken legs in the depths of the forest.

🔻She's often depicted as a terrifying old woman with a long, crooked nose, wild hair, and a fiery gaze.

🔻She's a guardian of the crossroads between the human world and the spirit world, a powerful force that can be both helpful and harmful depending on her mood.

🔻Baba Yaga's iconic hut on chicken legs is often described as being surrounded by a fence made of human bones.

🔻The most iconic Baba Yaga was portrayed by Georgy Milllar in the USSR (see the video).

🔻The Bayun Cat is often depicted as Baba Yaga's faithful companion.

The Proto-Slavs used clay stamps and seals to apply body art.

🔻Interestingly, among the ancient Slavs, tattoos were primarily worn by women.

🔻The skin drawings were a ritual amulet for the guardian of the hearth.

🔻With the spread of Christianity, the custom of tattooing was eradicated, as it was an integral part of pagan rituals.

🔻Among the inhabitants of Europe, tattooing was not practiced until the 18th century.
