Surprisingly, but in Russia, alongside Orthodox churches, one can find expressive red-brick churches in the Neo-Gothic style.

🔻These were built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with funds from Polish Catholic communities, and the architects - Tomasz Bogdanowicz-Dworzecki, Ivan Tamulevich, Vladimir Sokolovsky - also had Polish origins.

🔻Poles found themselves among Russian subjects as a result of several partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

🔻By the beginning of the 20th century, over 70 Roman Catholic churches, chapels, and prayer houses had been built.

Опасный 🆚️ Опасливый

Опасный
[a-pas-nyj]

Oпасливый
[а-pas-li-vyj]

🔻Both relate to feminine noun 'опасность' (danger), but they have distinct meanings:

1⃣Опасный describes something that poses a real and tangible threat. It's something that can cause harm or damage:

Опасный зверь
[a-pas-nyj zver']
A dangerous animal/beast

2⃣Опасливый describes a person who is cautious and wary, who suspects danger:

Опасливый человек
[a-pas-li-vyj chi-la-vek]
A cautious person

Ни к чёрту
[ni k chyor-tu]
SLT: Not to devil

Meaning:
(Something is) no good, useless, broken or worthless.

🔻This phraseological unit conveys strong disapproval or disappointment with something that is completely ineffective or without value.

Synonyms:
Плохой
[pla-khoy]
Bad

Никуда не годный
[ni-ku-da ni god-nyj]
Worthless

Example ( see the video):
Первый раз на охоте. Нервы ни к чёрту!
[per-vyj ras na a-kho-te. ner-vy ni k chyor-tu]
Hunting for the first time. I'm a nervous wreck.

💢 If you omit particle 'НИ', you will get a new meaning:

— Ни пуха ни пера!
— К чёрту!

🔻This is an equivalent of an idiom “Break a leg” in Russian: Ни пуха ни пера. It’s translated as “No fur, no feather”.

Kaliningrad's Hidden Guardians: The Homlin Family

🔻Nestled amongst the cobbled streets and charming architecture of Kaliningrad, a whimsical story unfolds. In 2018, artist Natalia Shevchenko and sculptor Andrei Sledovat embarked on a magical project, bringing to life a family of Homlins (7 members), whimsical creatures resembling household spirits or 'домовой' [da-ma-voy], inspired by Slavic folklore.

🔻These charming statues, scattered throughout the city, are a delightful reminder of the magic hidden in everyday life. They are guardians of the city, each with their own unique personality, and loved by locals and visitors alike.

🔻During winter, the Homlins receive a special touch of warmth: residents tie colorful scarves around their necks, creating a heartwarming spectacle that reflects the city's spirit of community and care.

The Khakas are northern nationality of Russia, who mainly live in the Southern Siberia.

🔻The Khakas people are a Turkic ethnic group native to the Khakassia Republic, Russia.

🔻The Khakas traditionally practiced nomadic herding, agriculture, hunting, and fishing. The Beltir people specialized in handicraft as well.

🔻Herding sheep and cattle is still common, although the republic became more industrialized over time.

🔻Like many other small peoples of Russia, the Khakas are preserving their culture (a prime example of this is the musical group Otyken), language and traditions.

👋Всем доброго утра!

🔻How to say 'near' in Russian:

Близко 🆚️ Под боком 🆚️ Рядом с 🆚️ Возле

1⃣Близко
[bliz-kа]

🔻This preposition means "close" in a general sense, often indicating proximity or distance.

2⃣Под боком
[pat bo-kam]
SLT: At (your) side

🔻This preposition is more specific, meaning "right next to" or "beside." It often implies a comfortable, familiar position, like being close to someone in bed.

3⃣Рядом (c...)
[rya-dam]

🔻This preposition means "nearby" or "beside," implying a close proximity.

4⃣Возле
[voz-le]

🔻This preposition means "near" or "by," suggesting a relatively close distance but not necessarily direct contact.

Example:
Котики сидят близко друг к другу, рядом находится доска, а возле неё стоит учительница.
🇬🇧 The kitties are sitting close to each other, near the blackboard, beside it there is a teacher.
