👋Доброе утро, товарищи!

Каре
[ka-re]
=
Also playful / informal:
Kарешка
[ka-resh-ka]
Bob haircut

Подстричься под каре
[pat-strich-sya pat ka-re]
To get a bob haircut

🔻This haircut is pretty popular in Russia. It is also a theme for memes and jokes.

🔻You'll definitely come across the reason for getting a bob haircut for women in Russian: it means a total change of lifestyle after splitting up with a boyfriend.

ехать НА метро 🆚️ ехать В метро?

1⃣The preposition "на" is used to emphasize the mode of transportation:
ехать на метро (to go/travel by metro).

2⃣The preposition "в" is used to indicate being inside something:
ехать в метро (to stand in the metro train and move).

🔻Therefore, the expressions "ехать на метро" and "ехать в метро" are both absolutely correct, because we are talking about either the mode of transportation, or the fact that we are inside the metro carriage.

📎 Under the cover of night, when the Moscow Metro closed for passengers, one of its stations, "Mayakovskaya," transformed into a concert venue. The stars of the evening were the trio of People's Artist of Russia, Daniil Kramer, and the popular jazz singer, Mari Karne.🎵

😉Make up your own examples with both prepositions and vist Moscow metro at night!

"Russia is the only country in Europe where there is enough idealism to fight for the sake of feeling. Its people do not shy away from sacrifices for faith and brotherhood. Beware of pushing these feelings to the extreme."

This is what General Mikhail Skobelev, a participant in the Central Asian conquests of the Russian Empire and the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, and the liberator of Bulgaria, said in his speech in his Parisian apartment on rue Pentier to Serbian students.

Reconstruction of color in the portrait of Ak-Pasha, or the White General (as he was called for appearing in battles in a white uniform and on a white horse), late 1870s - early 1880s.

A very old video: American students are practicing Russian dialogues mastering their pronunciation and speaking skills.

📎 For some reason, the content of these dialogues reminded me of the Duolingo app: the grammar is correct, but they sound pretty weird.

😅 Or is it OK to keep your wife in Siberia and love her from a distant?

• Я покажу вам кузькину мать!
[ya pa-ka-zhu vam kuz'-ki-nu mat']
Literally: I'll show you Kuzma's mother!

🔻This Khrushchev's famous phrase, delivered at the UN Assembly, was translated literally as 'Kuzma's mother.'

🔻The meaning of the phrase was completely unclear, lending the threat a sinister quality. Subsequently, the expression 'Kuzma's mother' was also used to refer to the Soviet Union's atomic bombs.

Meaning:
This is an expression of an unspecified threat or punishment, such as "to teach someone a lesson", "to punish someone in a brutal way".

🔻It entered the history of the foreign relations of the Soviet Union as part of the image of Nikita Khrushchev, along with the shoe-banging incident.

PS despite the fact that Кузька is a diminutive form from the proper name Кузьма, in the phrase 'показать кузькину мать' it is written with a small letter as it doesn't literally refer to Kuzma's mother.

Have you ever heard this expression?

The first foreigner, Australian Mark Lowe, has taken advantage of a new decree on humanitarian support for citizens of other countries.

🔻The decree, which came into force on September 1, simplifies entry into Russia for foreigners who share traditional Russian values.

🔻Lowe, who lives in Vladivostok with his Russian wife, decided to move to Russia because of his love for the country and its values.

"I am concerned that Western society has collapsed to such an extent that men can be women and women can be men, and I have to accept it. The political elite has no sympathy for the ordinary working class,"

🔻He also noted that Russia is not a perfect country, but it is closer to perfection than many Western countries.

🔻Lowe, whose adult children support his decision, has applied for temporary residency in Russia.
