День осеннего равноденствия
[den' a-se-nyi-va rav-na-den-stvi-ya]

🍁Today, September 22nd, marks the Autumn Equinox. It's the day when the sun shines directly on the equator and day and night are nearly equal in length. This marks the official start of autumn and the beginning of the season of cooler weather, colorful leaves, and cozy nights.

🤔Who is the author of these world famous lines about autumn?

🎧🗣👆Listen, read the translation, master your pronunciation and listening skills with me.

🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁

🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁
А melancholy time! So charming to the eye!
Your beauty in its parting pleases me -
I love the lavish withering of nature,
The gold and scarlet raiment of the woods,
The crisp wind rustling o'er their threshold,
The sky engulfed by tides of rippled gloom,
The sun's scarce rays, approaching frosts,
And gray-haired winter threatening from afar.

📎 Literal translation is in the comments to this post.

🗝
The author of this poem is Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin

Among all the heroes of Slavic mythology, Кот Баюн (the Cat Bayun) can be considered the most enigmatic.

🔻We can find mention of this animal with steel claws and fangs not only in folklore, but also in Pushkin's poem (he walks on a chain in Lukomorye).

🔻The Cat Bayun lived in the forests, far from people and not very fond of guests. The beast sat on an iron pillar and when he saw a traveller, he would begin to purr and talk to him. Having lulled the person's vigilance, the cat would pounce on him, kill and eat him.

🔻Because of the mythical creature's ability to speak, he was called Bayun, from the word "баить" to talk. It is from here that the well-known word "убаюкивать" to lull, to deprive of vigilance originates.

🔻He could cure diseases and even grant eternal life with his purring.

🔻In some fairy tales, the Cat Bayun is mentioned as a faithful assistant to Baba Yaga.

On September, 23, 1980, in Severodvinsk, Russia, the world's largest submarine 'Акула' ('Shark') was launched.

🔻On this day, the world’s largest submarine – as tall as a nine-story building and almost two football fields long, touched water for the first time.

🔻The new submarine was a worthy response to the American project of “Ohio” class submarines.

🔻The designers faced a difficult technical challenge – to accommodate 24 missiles weighing almost 100 tons each on board.

🔻After many design revisions, it was decided to place the missiles between two strong hulls.

🔻As a result, the first “Akula” submarine was built in a record short time – in 5 years.

🔻The crew of 160 people could serve in comfortable conditions: the submarine had a gym, swimming pool, solarium, sauna, lounge, and a pet corner.

🇷🇺 Реакция иностранцев на российские конфеты 'Птичье молоко':
- У вас тут птиц доят?
- В России всех доят. Тут даже кабачки икру откладывают.

🇬🇧 Foreigners' reaction to Russian candy "Ptichye Moloko" (Bird's Milk):
- Do you milk birds there?
- In Russia, they milk everyone. Even the zucchinis lay caviar here.

Доить (imperf. )
[da-it']

Суздаль
[suz-dal']

🔻Suzdal is an ancient Russian city (older than Moscow!) with a history spanning over 1,000 years.

🔻Like other major settlements in the central part of the country, Suzdal emerged as a result of the development of crafts, trade, and agriculture.

🔻Scholars disagree on the origin of the city's name. Most believe it originated from the verb "създати," meaning "to mold from clay."

🔻Suzdal is part of the 'Golden Ring of Russia' (unites old Russian cities of five Oblasts – usually excluding Moscow – as a well-known theme-route.

👋Доброе утро, товарищи!

Походка 🆚️ Поступь

Походка (femin.noun)
[pa-khot-ka]
Gait

Поступь (femin.noun)
[po-stup']
Step

🔻In Russian, both nouns describe how someone walks, but there's a subtle difference:

1⃣"Походка" refers to the overall style and manner of walking, like a graceful or confident gait:
Грациозная / уверенная походка
[gra-tsy-oz-na-ya / u-ve-ren-na-ya ...]

2⃣"Поступь" focuses on the individual movement of the foot, like a heavy or stately step (the latter is archaic):
Тяжёлая / величавая поступь
[ti-zho-la-ya / vi-li-chа-va-ya ...]

А у котика на видео какая походка?
