Why were the houses in the Russian North so huge?

🔻All the houses in this video are authentic 19th-century wooden dwellings, discovered in various Vologda villages.

🔻The harsh climate and long winters demanded resilience and a well-organized way of life, so a unique building style combined living quarters and outbuildings under one roof.

🔻Despite the size, these houses were typically intended for one family.

🔻Подклеть the first level of the house, was used for livestock or storage.

🔻The next level поветь was for storing hay or farm implements.

🔻There was a separate entrance to the поветь from the street, but the living part of the house could be accessed by a covered passage, without going outside, which helped to conserve heat.

🔻The inside of the house is familiar: a stove, a living room, a loft, a women's corner and a red corner.

🔻However, there is one characteristic feature: Northern houses were built without a single nail.

👋Всем доброго утра!

🔻How should one say 'different' in Russian?

• Разный
[raz-nyj]

• Другой

[dru-goy]

Both adjectives can be translated as 'different' in English.

But:

1. 'Разный' refers to 'various and diverse' pointing out the variety.

2. 'Другой' means 'another, other, the other' pointing out something else.

Example:
Есть разные коты, но мне другого не надо!
[yest' raz-ny-ye ka-ty no mnye dru-go-va ni na-da]
🇬🇧 There are different cats, but I don’t need another!

You've likely heard about the news in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces violated the Russian border and killed unarmed civilians.

🔻A resident of the Kursk region, Roman Yatsenko, made his way to the town of Sudzha on foot and rescued his wife and five children from Ukrainian shelling.

🔻The 51-year-old man was working in Moscow when Ukrainian troops crossed the border into the Kursk region. His family's safety was in jeopardy.

🔻Roman was determined to reach his loved ones and save them. He crawled through the fields, under the sound of gunfire, making his way home.

🔻On August 8th, the man finally reached his house and, using a safe route, led his family to the military personnel who were waiting at the checkpoint.

🔻According to Roman, his love for his family, as well as the skills he had retained from his mandatory military service in Soviet times, helped him save them.

So much pain in the kid's eyes...

🇷🇺

🇬🇧
Right now, Dad is defending the world
And all the people living on Earth.
He rarely appears on air with us,
But we eagerly wait for news.

And even though his beard has grown long,
His face is a little unwashed,
I want to hug him until I cry.
And I want to squeeze him with all my strength.

There is a piece of Art in North Ossetia which serves as a reminder of the importance of environmental protection.

🔻The sculpture Дерево Жизни (Tree of Life), installed in the Alagir district, depicts a human being with a tree growing from his palms.

🔻This art object symbolizes the unity of humanity and nature, urging us to cherish the environment.

🔻Created by sculptor Aslan Tsapiev in 2022, it has become a popular tourist destination and a symbol of the region.

🔻Beyond its aesthetic value, the sculpture carries a profound ecological message, reminding us of the importance of preserving nature and using its resources wisely.

In 1974, a German Shepherd named Пальма (Palma) was left behind at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow. Her owner, needing a veterinary certificate, left to Norilsk without her.

🔻Palma, faithful and heartbroken, waited for her owner at the airport for almost two years! She'd run towards every Il-18 that landed, hoping it was her beloved human. Airport staff tried to comfort her, feeding her and giving her a new name.

🔻Despite their efforts, Palma suffered in the cold, the heat, and even fights with stray dogs.

🔻Her ordeal touched the heart of a pilot, Vyacheslav, who published her story in "Komsomolskaya Pravda".

🔻The owner eventually wrote back, claiming to be busy. But he never expressed a desire to take her back.

🔻Palma found a new home with Vera, a university lecturer. It took time to gain the dog's trust, but eventually, Palma was taken to Vera's apartment.

🔻Palma first struggled to adapt but settled down, giving birth to puppies and living happily with Vera until her death.
