🍁On this day, Russian social media users send each other pics with burning rowan bushes and a gray-bearded man who promises to come and flip your calendar.
So, what the hell are Russians celebrating⁉️
🍁You won’t find this holiday in any calendar, but pretty much every Russian knows about it. They call September 3 ‘Shufutinov Day’.
💔Traditionally, on this day, people flip the calendar, burn rowan bushes, remember their exes and ask each other “Why❓”
🍁This all stems from the now cult song ‘September 3’ about broken hearts in the fall, performed by supreme chansonnier Mikhail Shufutinsky in 1994.
P.S.: If you happen to be in Russia on September 3, don’t even try to switch the radio station - this song will be on them all😂!
And yes, don’t forget to flip the calendar❗
😉 We're going to learn the most important part of this song tomorrow!

Vowel Ee
🔻Vowel 'E' consists of two sounds [й]+[e] (j+e). The [й] sound makes the previous consonant sound soft 'дe' [д'э]. So this way
'Е' is read when it is stressed.
🔻When 'E' is unstressed, it's usually read like [йи] or ['и].
🎧🗣⬇️ Can you read these words?
ле́с [л′э] (forest) – леса́ [л′и] (forests)
ле́то [л′э] (summer) – лета́ть [л′и] (fly)
ве́к [в′э] (century) – весна́ [в′и] (spring)
е́вро [йэ] (euro) – Евро́па [йи] (Europe)
е́сли [йэ] (if) – Еле́на [йи] (Нelen)
е́хать [йэ] (go) – Его́р [йи] (Egor-name)

🤍 За душо́й ничего́ нет.
[ za dushoj nichivo net ]
Meaning:
1) one has nothing inside one's heart; a cruel person who has no feelings,
2) a poor person who owns nothing
🔻Phraseologism "За душой ничего нет" has an interesting origin:
🔻A place between the collarbones was called the soul, that's the dimple on the neck above the sternum, where, according to popular belief, the soul of a person was placed.
🔻In the same place on the chest, wallets used to be worn💰.
😥 У неё за душо́й ничего́ нет.

А after Ч or Щ
🔻The sounds [ч′] and [щ′] are always soft in Russian,
they are combined with the letter A in the same way as other consonants are combined with Я.
🔻Compare: ча [ч'a] and дя [д'a].
🔻Therefore, here we will read the unstressed letter А as [и].
🎧🗣⬇️ Can you read these words?
час [ч′а] (hour)– часы́ [ч′и] (hours, clock)
чай [ч′а] (tea)– слу́чай [ч′и] (accident)
обеща́ть [щ′а] (promise)– пло́щадь [щ′и] (square)
🔻But at the end of the word, the unstressed syllables ЧА and ЩА retain, though inconspicuously, and we pronounce the sound [a].
🎧🗣⬇️ Can you read these words?
зада́ча [ч′а] (task)
встре́ча [ч′а] (meeting)
да́ча [ч′а] (dacha)
сда́ча [ч'а] (change)
