Российская империя в 19 веке
🔻At the beginning of the 19th century, the Russian Empire was located on a territory stretching for thousands of kilometers from the Baltic to the coast of Alaska.
🔻About 40 million people lived on these lands.
🔻The Russian Empire was a multinational country. Its territories were inhabited mainly by Russians. Ukrainians, Belarusians came next in quantity.
🔻The peoples of Russia belonged to different religions. About 87% of the population were Orthodox.
🔻The population of Russia was divided into classes. There were privileged classes - the nobility, merchants, clergy, and tax-paying classes - tradesmen, the Cossacks, peasants.
🔻Politically, Russia was an autocratic monarchy. The emperor was the head of state.
🔻Serfdom was abolished only in 1861 by Emperor Alexander II.
🔻The life of ordinary people was hard: women and children also worked for 14-15 hours but got much less for it.

🇬🇧 Why are you so сonstrained? Get relaxed!
The key:
This is a play on word 'закрепостить' - to enslave.
Its antonym is 'раскрепостить' - to liberate.
Whereas 'раскрепоститься' means to feel free, to relax, to not feel stressed or reserved.

Masculine nouns:
• Космонавт (космонавты)
[kas-ma-naft (kas-ma-naf-ty)]
Cosmonaut(s)
• Астронавт (астронавты)
[as-tra-naft (as-tra-naf-ty)]
Astronaut(s)
🔻The new word 'космонавт' was formed artificially in the early 1960s by combining the roots of the Greek words 'kosmos' - “universe” and 'nautes' - “swimmer”.
🔻The difference between 'космонавт' and 'астронавт' is just nationality. The word 'astronaut' was “invented” by an Englishman, whereas 'cosmonaut' - by a Russian.
🔻On the territory of the post-Soviet space, pilots and explorers of extraterrestrial space are called 'cosmonauts', whereas in most other countries the word 'astronauts' was used.

The youngest boy on this picture is little Boris, the Germans will hang him on a scarf but his relatives will be able to save him at the very last moment. After the war, he will work at a radio lamp factory.
The two elders (on the right and on the left) will be driven away by the Nazis to Germany, but they will be able to escape along the road and join the Red Army units. Valentin will become a carpenter, and the girl Zoya will finish nursing courses and work in a children's hospital.
As for the boy sitting on the chair, one morning on April 12, 1961 he will say “Let's go!” and write himself into history as the first person in world history to fly into outer space. Forever.
1938. Valentin, Boris, Zoya and Yuri Gagarin.

• Тёмная ночь
[tyom-na-ya noch]
Dark is the night
'Dark is the night' is a lyrical song composed by Nikita Bogoslovsky in 1943 for the Soviet movie about Great Patriotic War 'Two soldiers'.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

At the Marinsky tonight watching the operette The Bat. The libretto in Russian put the entire atmosphere of Prince Orlovsky's ball into a genuine St.Petersburg atmosphere.
I believe Johann Strauß would have enjoyed this evening just as much as did my Indian and Russian colleagues.
Nice to forget everything like the daily dirty attacks from Austria by listening to joyful music among hundreds of warm hearted Russians
