🔻In 1914, Kryuchkov and three fellow soldiers suddenly encountered 27 German uhlans. The Germans saw that there were only four Russians and rushed to attack.

🔻Kryuchkov tried to shoot back, but the cartridge jammed. Then, with one cavalry sword, he entered into battle with 11 enemies surrounding him.

🔻After a minute of battle, Kryuchkov was already covered in blood, but continued to beat his enemies. And Kryuchkov’s comrades dealt with the rest of the Germans. By the end of the battle, 22 corpses lay on the ground. Eventually, 16 wounds were found on Kryuchkov’s body.

🔻After this incident, the Germans and Austrians stopped taking Cossacks prisoner, killing them on the spot.

Любопытной Варваре на базаре нос оторвали.
[lu-ba-pyt-nay Var-va-re na ba-za-ri nos a-tar-va-li]
SLT: Curious Varvara's nose was torn off at the market.

Meaning:
Curiosity killed the cat.

🔻Russians use this proverb when a person, who is excessively curious and asks questions about other people's affairs, can bring trouble to himself. Usually it is used as a warning not to ask questions, not to interfere.

Origin:
This proverb might appear because of the punishment for theft, in which the nose was cut off. This is how criminals were punished in Byzantium. In Rus', this type of torture was introduced according to the Council Code of 1649.

🔻In Russian there's also a funny kids poem about Varvara and her nose. Check it! 👇

You can call any man who is cool, intelligent, talented, outstanding or, of course, handsome:
Красавчик
[ krasafchik ]

If you are a man, you can also call another man красавчик but in a humorous way OR in order to approve of his actions, achievements. Not appearance!

Like: Ну ты красавчик! = Attaboy! Well done!

😉You won't be considered a gay. Just use this word with your friends.
