Натянуть сову на глобус
  [na-tyi-nut' sa-voo na glo-bus]
SLT: To stretch an owl onto the globe.

Meaning:
To square the circle, to clumsily manipulate facts in order to support one’s point of view

Он пытался натянуть сову на глобус, настаивая, что эти две теории совместимы.
[on py-tal-sya na-ti-noot' sa-vu na glo-bus, nas-ta-i-va-ya, shto e-ti dve ti-o-ri-yi sav-mis-ti-my]
He tried to put an owl onto the globe, insisting that the two theories were compatible.

Origin:

🔻This expression is relatively new. It appeared in 1980-s from an anecdote🔞❗️:

A new Geography teacher comes to a class, but she is completely ignored by the pupils. She has to complain to the head teacher who advises her to approach the issue in a youthful way.
The teacher goes back to the class, grabbing a visual aid.
She asks the pupils:
— Children, who can put a condom on a globe?
There was a surprised silence.
— What is a globe?
— A good question! This is where we will start our lesson!

• В рот мне ноги!
(colloquial)
    [ v rot mnye nogi ]
    SLT: Into mouth (put) my
    legs

Meaning:
This is an interjection of strong surprise, similar to 'Ёшкин кот!'

🔻First it was used in 2008 by Andrei Bocharov during the dubbing (voice-over-translation) of the parody video clips “Street Magic of David Blaine” (third part, 0:54; in stead of the phrase “What the  f*ck!”).

🔻Surprisingly, but in English there is a similar expression with a different meaning: 'put your foot in your mouth' which means to say or do something that you should not have, especially something that embarrasses someone else.

Please mind the difference in the meaning!

В рот мне ноги! Да у тебя же талант!
[ v rot mnye nogi. da u tibya zhi talant ]
🇬🇧 Holy cow! You are talented!
