Fundamentals Today – CAD Focus 🇨🇦

Today’s key fundamentals are centred around Canadian inflation data, with CPI m/m, Median CPI y/y, Trimmed CPI y/y, and Common CPI y/y released this afternoon, followed by the BoC Business Outlook Survey.

Any cooling inflation (lower-than-expected CPI) could add pressure on the Canadian dollar, as it strengthens the case for future BoC rate cuts.

Higher-than-expected inflation would likely support CAD strength, as it reduces the urgency for monetary easing.

The BoC Business Outlook Survey may add volatility later in the session, especially if business sentiment or inflation expectations shift.

⚠️ Expect increased volatility on CAD pairs around release times — manage risk accordingly. ⚠️

Fundamentals Today – GBP & CHF Focus 🇬🇧🇨🇭

This morning we had UK labour market data, with Claimant Count Change coming in worse than forecast (17.9K vs 15.6K), signalling a softer employment picture, while Average Earnings 3m/y printed slightly above expectations (4.7% vs 4.6%), showing wage pressures remain sticky.

Mixed data keeps the BoE outlook uncertain, which could lead to choppy price action on GBP pairs.

BoE Governor Bailey’s speech later this morning is a key risk event — any dovish or hawkish tone could drive further GBP volatility.

WEF Annual Meetings may create broader risk sentiment shifts across indices and FX.
Later, SNB Chairman Schlegel’s speech could impact CHF pairs, particularly if inflation or policy guidance is discussed.

Fundamentals Today – GBP, EUR & USD Focus 🇬🇧🇪🇺🇺🇸

This morning we have UK CPI y/y, forecast at 3.3% vs 3.2% previously, making it a high-impact release for GBP.

Higher-than-expected CPI would support GBP strength, as it keeps inflation concerns elevated and limits near-term BoE rate cut expectations.

Lower CPI could weaken GBP and increase speculation around monetary easing.
Later in the session:

• ECB President Lagarde speaks twice, which may drive EUR volatility, particularly if she comments on inflation progress or rate timing.

• WEF Annual Meetings (Day 3) continue to influence overall risk sentiment across FX, indices, and commodities.

• President Trump speaking is a headline risk for USD, with potential for sharp, unpredictable moves depending on political or economic commentary.

• US Pending Home Sales m/m adds secondary volatility to USD pairs.

USD/CAD 4H - As you can see price has continued to play out exactly as we anticipated, trading us up and into the Supply Zone above before trading us lower in the market.

A big well done to anyone who has been following this trade and taking part in the swings its been putting in, for those who didn't manage dont worry I still have my eye on it.
