Q&A pt. 2

you asked a lot of thoughtful questions about mentorship, and i’ll finally answer the most common ones here

Who is this mentorship for?

for students applying in the next 1–2 cycles who already have a strong base (academics, extracurriculars, language level), but want to approach the process more strategically

What do you mean by strategy/strategic preparation?

from what i’ve seen, many applicants put in a lot of effort, but it doesn’t always lead to measurable outcomes

often, it’s not about doing more, but about understanding:
— how your personal brand connects to your interests
— how your story is perceived by admissions officers
— how to make different parts of your application work together

every application is unique, so creating a personalised preparation strategy is what we focus on❤️

what will the mentorship look like?

we work closely throughout the process:
— regular 1:1 sessions
— ongoing support between meetings in telegram
— step-by-step planning depending on your goals and timeline

Can i prepare on my own using free resources?

of course! i’ll continue sharing as much as i can here as well

mentorship is for those who want more structure, personalised feedback, and a clearer understanding of their directionespecially during the spring/summer stage, when most key steps are made

why only a few students?

because i want to keep it personal and thoughtful!
this format only works when i can give enough attention to each person 🌟

if you feel like you might benefit from this kind of support, you can text me “MENTORSHIP” in dm (@damimiese), and i’ll share more details

what is unique about your approach?

very interesting question i received in my anonymous question boxfeel free to ask more!

during my admission cycles, i continuously thought about different mentorship programs, but very few of them were suitable for my own needs 💌

why so?the absence of individual approach

prerecorded lectures, no summer programs/schools applications review, and, simply, very superficial understanding of admission processes in 80% of the offered programs made me afraid of being scammed

building my mentorship program, i was based on my own experience of applying and working with great mentors to define the key aspects that helped me with transforming 11 rejects into the Ivy League ED acceptance😳

leading 30+ 1-on-1 sessions, i strengthened my understanding of the admission processes, and, even though i’m already admitted, i continue to learn more every day!

feel free to dm me (@damimiese) to learn more about the program and feel free to ask any follow up questions in the comments or anonymously!🌟

i want to apply to the us universities - when should i start?

today. like, literally, today!

regardless of your age, there is no clear point when your preparation should be started🌟

as a person, who already went through this process, i would say loud and clear that there is no perfect timing for you to start

sooo, let’s start today by participating and learning more about powerful part of the most successful applications: research

here are 3 programs i’d love to share this week:

Cambridge Future Scholar Research Program
🌟 deadline: May 15

Lumiere Research Program
🪩 deadline: May 10

Indigo Research Program
🎀 deadline: May 31

let me know in the comments what other questions you may have about research, and i’ll break them down in the next posts!

personal statement and supplemental essays – how to brainstorm?

during the admission cycle, you’ll need to write 30-60 supplementals (especially, when you’re applying to the T20) and the holy grail of your application – personal statement

the amount of work is huge, but how to find creative and unique ideas for all these essays?🌟

here are some tips that helped me write the essays that got in the Ivy League

🚬 self-reflection

every day, we consume lots of content that provoke our thinking procceses, so i recommend you to put it down!

journaling, notes app on your phone, lists of quotes/books/movies – start doing it now, and you’ll face much less problems with idea generation for your essays

you need to stand out from the crowd, so develop your personal voice to succeed!

🧌 drafts..drafts..drafts

is it too obvious to say that you’ll never write a perfect essay on your first try? my PS had 13 drafts, and each of Brown supplementals 5-6 drafts

aiming to write a perfect piece in one seat, your mind falls into a cognitive trap

tell the difference:

i have only one draft and 1 hour to write a perfect essay

i have my document where i can write a new draft and edit it as much as i want

to be creative & unique you need to relax your mind. harsh time and drafts limits either do the opposite

pro tip: start early, guys!

🌎 pleasant atmosphere

turn on your favourite music, go to a cafe you like, or simply eat your favourite snack before the writing session – all of these «comforting» activities helped me significantly during Sep-Oct rush

🌟 AI

AI essays, edits, word choice
AI for brainstorming & grammar check🩷

use AI wisely! i see that applicants underestimate how obvious (and, honestly, just bad) AI essays look

can robot write a symphony? well, right now, hell no

use your personal voice and mind!

3 things to do today to boost yourself❕️

happy summer everyone – the best season of the year is finally here!

however, you need to remember to spend it wisely, maintaining the work & life balance ✖️

here are several things i recommend you doing instead of tiktok:

🤩 creative writing

hear me out: you underestimate the importance of writing good essays for your application!

unfortunately, in CIS school curriculums, they don’t teach us to write creatively, so try do dedicate at least 1 hour to watch youtube videos, to read books, and, most importantly, to practice

you can start with reading my guide on the most foundational principles of creative writing *here*

🤩college list

start the formation of your college list

what to research?
• majors, minors, certificates – all the academic opportunities
• school life, clubs, and organisations
• general information about deadlines, test scores, and of course fin. aid

to see the template i used for my college list go *here*

why so?
1st: to build a long list of 30-35 colleges you would like to apply to and be free of long operational work
2nd: to understand better how your interests and goals are represented in the us colleges and to estimate your current chances realistically

❕️summer programs

participation, in many cases, costs nothing, but you’ll gain:
- real scientific exposure
- marvellous academic honor
- opportunity to network with the greatest leaders of the world
- experience of writing motivational essay and creating appreciations that work

however, choose wisely where to participate! if you want me to create a 2nd part dedicated specifically to summer programs, let’s collect 75 reactions

the road is mastered by the one who walks it 🤩🤩

DOMINIKA, I GOT IN
WITH A SCHOLARSHIP

this is my favourite type of messages 😌

talking about summer programs, me and my mentees have our first results!

yesterday, we received an acceptance letter from Cambridge Centre for International Research's Cambridge Future Scholar Programme for a very competitive program in behavioural economics + merit-based scholarship

➡️ acceptance rate is ~10%, and only top 40% of all admits receive merit aid!

congratulations, my love!
i’m sure, it’s just the beginning
