Micheál Martin promised the Jewish lobby groups he would appoint a "national coordinator" to tackle antisemitism and hinted his government will drop a bill to boycott Israeli settlers in the West Bank, which previously had cross-party support.

Historically, the Tailteann Games were funeral games associated with Pre-Christian Ireland, with the games having been dated as far back as 1829 BC.

This was essentially an Irish version of the Olympics, with events including the long jump, running, hurling, swordfighting, spear throwing, boxing, archery, wrestling, swimming, and chariot and horse racing.

In 1922, the Irish Free State sought to revive the games, opening them up to foreigners of Irish heritage.
