Unfortunately, upon returning to Tico Time for the second fundraising push at Convergence, Kathy crashed her ebike on some sand on the path and got hurt pretty badly.
She is recovering in a nearby hotel in Farmington New Mexico, after being released from the trauma unit while the team at Convergance and her Joys team finish the community kitchen there for weekend.
Kathy has multiple facial fractures, 3 broken bones in her nose, a torn acl and deep bruising in her abdomen.
She is recovering in the hotel until she can drive her truck and trailer back the 6 hours to Littleton, Colorado sometime later this week.

Here is her personal go fund me. Kathy does not have medical insurance and lives week to week on her wages.
We appreciate our community and the care and love she has recieved through messages, encouragement and prayer.

She wishes to ask you all to keep Joys taken care of before giving to her go fund me.
Joys is the most important mission to her heart and caring for Joy together she says will enable us all to thrive.
We appreciate if our community can do both.

With so much love,
The Joy team.

I am so thankful to all of you that reached out over the last 6 days and outpouring of love and support you have offered!

There is so much Joy in my heart and I’m thankful to be healing expeditiously through your power of love, prayer and grace from God.

Though I’ll be taking it really slow, I’ll be able to return to Joys next week and look so forward to being with our wonderful fam of Joy.

Wrapping Up a Summer of Joy and Impact!

What a season it’s been, Joy’s Kitchen community! As we head into the cooler months, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the incredible work we accomplished together this summer. From providing groceries to over 5,000 families each month to rescuing food and transforming it into nourishment for our community, every effort made a real difference. We could not have done any of it without your dedication and support.

This summer, we held several fundraisers from May to September, raising over half of our year’s operating costs. We achieved this through initiatives like the Joy Community Tents, dining instructions at our events, and the incredible efforts of our Joy's Lab setup. Joy's Lab included a Bell tent lounge, a mobile kitchen setup, and a dining tent, creating a welcoming space for the community to come together. Every part of this setup allowed us to make meaningful connections, educate on food sustainability, and share the abundance we gathered.

We also saw so many of you stepping up in countless ways—volunteering your time, donating what you could, or simply sharing our mission with your friends and family. It’s these small acts of kindness that add up to something truly remarkable. Together, we’ve built a network of compassion that is making a significant impact every single day. We expanded our reach and found new ways to connect through creativity, shared experiences, and food. Joy's Kitchen grew not because we wanted to, but because the need around us was simply too great to ignore.

Now, as we prepare for the upcoming holiday season, we know that the need for our services will only continue to grow. Many families in our community are already struggling, and winter brings extra challenges. That’s why we’re reaching out to our amazing supporters once more—this time with a focus on stocking up before the cold months set in. We want to ensure that no family faces an empty pantry, and that no one in our community has to go without the essentials they need.

How you can help:

Donate: Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. Whether it’s $5 or $50, your donation helps us keep our shelves stocked with healthy groceries for those who need them most. It helps us continue our mission of rescuing viable food that might otherwise go to waste and putting it directly into the hands of those who need it.

Spread the Word: Share our mission with your network. Let your friends, family, and colleagues know that Joy’s Kitchen is here, and we’re doing the work thanks to the power of 100% community support. A simple share or conversation can help us reach more people who want to be a part of making a difference.

Volunteer: Want to get involved in a hands-on way? We would love to have you join our team, especially as we prepare for our busiest time of year. Your time and talents can make a huge impact, and we’d be thrilled to have you help us in our mission to alleviate food insecurity in our community.

As we look ahead to the winter months, we want to ensure that every family has access to the nourishment they need. Joy’s Kitchen has always been about the people—the volunteers, donors, supporters, and the families we serve. We know that through the power of community, we can meet these challenges head-on and provide hope to those who need it. Thank you for keeping the heart of Joy’s Kitchen beating strong. Your support, through every season, has meant the world to us, and together, we will continue to bring joy, dignity, and sustenance to those who need it.

Let’s bring the warmth and generosity of summer into the holiday season. Together, we can make a lasting difference for every family in need.

It’s the people that come together that change the world everyday. Piper has been an ally of Joy for over 10 years and is also one of the main contacts for a retail grocery donation location as the reciever. It’s people like her that brighten our days as well as make sure there’s professionalism in the way that donations are handled both for the donor and the end recipient; the people.
Thanks Piper for your everyday support of Joy!
