_NEET UG 2025 counselling has been delayed after the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a re-test for candidates affected by power outages in Indore and Ujjain._
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET UG 2025 counselling has been delayed! In a latest development, counselling process which was scheduled to begin today has been posponed. This comes after the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered NTA to conduct re-test of candidates who faced power outage at Indore and Ujjain centres on May 4 exam.
The High Court observed that exam authorities acknowledged the power outage and had to use alternative lighting such as emergency lights and candles. The court further highlighted the absence of mandatory CCTV footage at some centres and raised serious concerns.
The Court emphasized that even short disruptions during a crucial exam like NEET could impact studentsβ concentration and performance. The high court judge also dismissed the NTAβs argument based on statistical analysis, and said that the absence of score deviations doesn't negate the adverse impact of the power outage on affected candidates. *J&K Admin allows 8th Muharram procession for 3rd consecutive year*
_Thousands of mourners march from Guru Bazar to Dalgate; Traffic diverted, volunteers deployed, water sprinkled to ease devotees under intense heat_
Rehan Qayoom Mir
Srinagar, Jul 04: For the third consecutive year, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday allowed the 8th Muharram procession along its traditional routeβfrom Guru Bazar to Dalgate, in which thousands of mourners participated amid heightened security and volunteer support.
The pre-dawn procession began at 5:00 AM from Guru Bazar and passed through Budshah Kadal and Maulana Azad Road before culminating at Dalgate.
Earlier, barred for over 35 years due to security concerns in the late 1980s, the traditional mourning route was restored in 2023, a move welcomed across religious and civil society circles.
The administration had made elaborate security and logistical arrangements. The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, and senior police officials had earlier chaired high-level meetings with representatives of Shia organisations ahead of Muharram to coordinate efforts.
Also, traffic police Srinagar city issued an advisory in advance, announcing that vehicular movement along the route from Guru Bazar to Dalgate would be restricted from early morning. Additionally, traffic was diverted via Residency Road, Hari Singh High Street, Jehangir Chowk, and other inner routes, with designated parking provided at Gindun Park and SP College.
Moreover, water sprinklers were also being deployed at various locations along the procession route to provide relief from the rising temperatures, and hundreds of community volunteers were stationed for crowd management and emergency assistance.
Eyewitnesses and participants told News Agencies that Aazadar-e-Hussain are now marching peacefully, beating their chests and chanting elegies in memory of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
βIt is reassuring that for the third consecutive year, we have been able to take out the 8th Muharram procession peacefully,β said Syed Murtaza Rizvi, a mourner from Srinagar. βFor decades, this route remained off-limits. Seeing mourners walk it again reflects a positive shift, one we hope continues,β he said.
βSeeing mourners commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) is indeed a good step,β said Naqib Abbas Baba from Srinagar. βWe are thankful to the administration for allowing us to take the 8th Muharram procession this year too,β added a group of mourners near Jehangir Chowk.
It may be recalled that Muharram processions along this route were banned since the late 1980s due to the political and security situation in the Valley. For over three decades, the 8th Muharram procession was only permitted in selected areas under tight restrictions, and it is ongoing. The lifting of the ban in 2023 marked a major shift in policy and was hailed as a step towards religious inclusivity and reconciliation.
Moreover, the 8th of Muharram is part of the broader commemoration leading up to Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, which marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS)βthe grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), along with 72 of his companions in the Battle of Karbala in present-day Iraq

*No Decision Yet on Vacation Extension, Final Decision Tomorrow After Assessing Weather Conditions: Official*
Srinagar, July 6: Amid rising temperatures, the Jammu and Kashmir administration is monitoring weather conditions and is likely to decide any decision on the school vacation extension on Monday after assessing weather conditions.
A senior government official told news agencies, that no final decision has been taken yet, adding that weather forecasts indicate a strong possibility of rainfall beginning tonight, tomorrow and also day after tomorrow, which is most likely to bring temperatures down.
"As far as the weather forecast is concerned, we have reports suggesting there are very high chances of rain tonight, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow," the official said adding it is a positive sign.
βWe are closely monitoring the situation. A final decision regarding any vacation extension will be taken tomorrow after assessing the actual weather conditions,β he added.
Currently, summer vacations in government and private schools across the Kashmir division are scheduled to conclude Monday July 7, with schools set to reopen on July 8 Tuesday.
The statement comes amid growing demand from students, parents, and teachers for the extension of the break, citing severe heat and high overnight temperatures. The Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) has already proposed adjusting school timings instead of extending holidays further.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted moderate to heavy showers at many places across Jammu and Kashmir from July 6 to 8, potentially offering some relief from the persistent heatwave.
