Bangkok Devcon has received mixed reviews (tweets we saw on X: traffic, pretty lame parties, highest male ratio, 95% of projects are BS, ETH community a snooze (compared to Solana)).
There were simply too many events — over 700 from November 11th to 18th. This is a lot. People didn't know which events were good or bad. Almost every event approved each attendee, as there were too many events and not enough people to fill them.
Hot Topics:
- We didn’t hear much about DePin, or maybe it’s because we skipped all the DePin events, haha.
- Memes are everywhere. Investors and founders were eager to learn from MemeCon about memes and started launching their own during the conference, just for fun.
- Layer 1 and Layer 2 projects. Just too many, man. Guys, please stop building new projects. You do not have users for it. Start investing in education and bring new users to the ecosystem. You can’t keep stealing users from other projects only. There were just too many builders. We wish more startups would start onboarding sales and marketing/growth professionals before investors' money runs out. Projects keep building and building, and everyone thinks they are super important and doing something unique, but only about 50% will succeed, the rest will waste investors' money on expensive trips, luxury lifestyles, and bags—sorry, that’s the reality :)
- Everyone is talking about selling nodes and asking to buy, haha.
SheFi and CryptoChicks - International Hub for Women Talent in Blockchain did an amazing job educating women and bringing more into the ecosystem.
Many projects and VCs collaborated with running clubs, yoga schools, and wellness centers to host some wellness sessions. We loved seeing the rise of mindfulness and wellness in the space. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind.
Electric Capital, NEAR, Sui and TON did an amazing job with events.
Bangkok is a great place to host crypto events: nice weather, good food, cheap massages, bike taxis to skip traffic, and many dog cafes to work in while hugging dogs.
We think the next Token event should be in Thailand. Why not?
