So as though resurrecting the podcast, releasing a record, booking a tour, being a dad with an infant for the first time, and also trying to still play bass every day weren't enough...

I'm very happy to finally be able to talk about a project I've been working on for quite some time:

https://janekgwizdala.com/store/p/bass-players-guide-to-altered-chords-scales-pre-sale-package

I've had so many questions over the years about harmony, and altered chords and scales have always been at the top of the list. I've spent the past 6 months combing through the 30 years of archives of my practice routine and learning process for this specifc sound, and have come up with The Bass Player's Guide To Altered Chords and Scales.

And we're doing something slightly different with this book with a live masterclass for the first 150 people who pre-order the book. It'll take place on August 14th at 10am PST, and I'll be live for two hours answering all harmony related questions. For any pre-order customers that can't make the event live, we're going to archive it and make it available to everyone on-demand.
https://share.transistor.fm/s/41a14fea fun episode today. A little bit ranty, but once I took my foot off the loud pedal for a minute, I think we got to some good information and dispelled some myths about the world of gear and how endorsements work.
Got a new episode of the podcast cooking and it’s all about flying and traveling in general as a bass player/musician.

If you have anything you’re curious about, speak now! I’ll try and get to as many questions as I can.

So here it is! The travel episode. And it's also on a new dedicated website with all the podcast episodes in one place. So dig around the episodes, there are interview gems in there with some fantastic musicians.
I've been super quiet in the channel for a couple of months as there has just been way too much going on to keep juggling all the platforms at once. But with today's episode of the podcast I'm happy to report on getting an agent/manager for the first time in my career, and ask for your help once again in suggesting cities and venues for the team to work on bring the new trio to in 2023.

Have a listen to the episode, and leave me a comment with your suggestions.

This might be the lightest I’ve traveled in terms of pedals in a really long time. Stomp XL, BP-1 compact, and a Dunlop mini volume pedal checked in my kapsule with the bass. Very interested to see how this “sideman” setup holds up this week on the east coast with Steve Smith and Vital Information.
Just in case anyone in the Telegram channel isn't on my mailing list, and missed the annoncement that I started a substack, here it is!

https://janekgwizdala.substack.com/

Having recently deleted my Facebook and Twitter acounts, I think the Telegram channel will probably be next. I'm doing my best to focus everything into one space to create a healthier conversation, and trying to get away from social media style platforms like this where I know some people have decided not to participate due to security concerns.

There will be both free and paid content on the substack. I'm only two posts in so far, so there's not a lot of catching up to do from a reader perspective... But there is tons for me learn from a writer's standpoint. I'm also porting my podcast over to substack, so all the most creative elements of what I put out into the world will be located in one easy-to-access location.
This is not a joke!

I am absoltuely trying to reach at least 100k subs on YouTube by April, and go as far beyond that as I can for the rest of the year.

I've come to realize that YT might be the last place on the internet where it's possible to grow an audience by creating art without selling your soul. Aside from a few choice thumbnails like this one... 🤦🏻‍♂️

What I post is always going to be something I'm passionate, transparent, and honest about, and any help you guys can give me in reaching these goals would be huge.

It all leads to one ultimate goal which is to be out there on the road with my own band playing music for you live.

Here is today's first video in the mission to 100K: https://youtu.be/N2W8bNMUFP0
For anyone not hip to my recent move to Substack to re-boot my blog, come by and check it out, it's free to read!: https://janekgwizdala.substack.com/

I posted something deep from the archives today from my first days as a band leader in the late 90's before leaving the UK for the US.

The podcast is also hosted via substack now, so if you are on your commute today, or have a small child napping on you like I do right now, I've got you covered for entertainment!

This was so much fun to do, I hope you dig it.
I messed up and put this on my main channel when it was meant for the podcast channel. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Here’s the correct version.

After a couple of comments in the chat that I was late to see as I don't have notifications enabled for any app on any device anymore, it reminded me that this channel existed and that it has been dormant for a while.

I'm really focusing any time I have to share things on YouTube and Substack. If you're looking for something like this group to continue to be a part of, where there is regular daily activity and that is still free to use, then consider subscribing to the mailing list at my substack blog. It's where I host my podcast, my blog, my mailing list, and also some cool bonuses for paying subscribers.

It has been a breath of fresh air not to be algorithm driven, and to feel like I can share what I want based on what I'm feeling rather than what instagram tells me I should be feeling.

I'm keeping the substack subscribers updated with progress on the writing of the new album right now. It's a little nerve wracking sharing really bare-bones demos that basically suck, but it will be interesting to look back at it and see the progress of songs leading up to the sessions.

This will most likely be my last post here. I thank you for sticking around as long as you did, and hope to continue the conversation at substack with you all.

Thanks,

Janek
