Herskip bandalagsríkja Atlantshafsbandalagsins hófu að koma til hafnar í Reykjavík í morgun en skipin eru hingað komin til að taka þátt í kafbátaeftirlitsæfingunni Dynamic Mongoose sem hefst eftir helgi og er haldin á vegum Atlantshafsbandalagsins.

Æfingin er árleg og fer fram suður af landinu og á hafsvæðinu á milli Íslands og Noregs.

Dynamic Mongoose hefst formlega á mánudag og stendur til 9. maí. Ísland er gestgjafi æfingarinnar að þessu sinni.

Landhelgisgæsla Íslands hefur annast skipulagningu æfingarinnar í samstarfi við varnarmálaskrifstofu utanríkisráðuneytisins og flotastjórn Atlantshafsbandalagsins í Northwood í Bretlandi.

Herskipin sem eru væntanleg til hafnar í Reykjavík í dag eru skipin HNLMS Tromp frá Hollandi, FGS Bayern og FGS Rhön frá Þýskalandi, ORP General Kazimierz Pulaski frá Póllandi auk þýsks kafbáts. Þrjú skipanna eru hluti af fastaflota NATO (SNMG1). Þá mun varðskipið Freyja taka þátt í æfingunni...
