To learn from history, we need to be concerned. This concern is regarding the future; taking lessons from history means you and I see where in the story we are standing. Then we can see how did someone, then standing in such a position as ours, act that he or she was damaged? We must be careful not to act like them.
We should contemplate how just 50 years after demise of Prophet (PBUH) the Islamic society reached a point that a person like Imam Hussein had no choice but to make such a sacrifice to save the Islamic society? What calamity hit the Islamic society that it ended up with Yazid? Two factors, are main factors behind this deviation and aberration: first distancing from remembrance of God which is embodied in prayers. Forgetting God and spirituality; separating spirituality from life… second “and followed their lust” (19:59); pursuing lusts and instincts and in one sentence: seeking earthly life (secularism). Thinking of accumulating wealth, and enjoying earthly instincts and lusts. Prioritizing such things and forgetting about the ideals. This is a huge loss and pain. We might also suffer such a pain.

در تاریخ چیزی هست که اگر بخواهیم از آن عبرت بگیریم، باید دغدغه داشته باشیم. این دغدغه، مربوط به آینده است... تاریخ یعنی من و شما... ببینیم در کدام قسمتِ داستان قرار گرفته‌ایم. بعد ببینیم کسی که مثل ما در این قسمت قرار گرفته بود، آن روز چگونه عمل کرد که ضربه خورد؟ مواظب باشیم آن طور عمل نکنیم.
ببینیم چه شد که پنجاه سال بعد از درگذشت پیغمبر صلوات‌اللَّه و سلامه علیه، جامعه اسلامی به آن حدّی رسید که کسی مثل امام حسین علیه‌السّلام، ناچار شد برای نجات جامعه اسلامی، چنین فداکاری‌ای بکند؟... آن جامعه‌اسلامی، چه آفتی پیدا کرد که کارش به یزید رسید؟ دو عامل، عامل اصلی این گمراهی و انحراف عمومی است: یکی دورشدن از ذکر خدا که مظهر آن نماز است. فراموش کردن خدا و معنویّت؛ حساب معنویّت را از زندگی جدا کردن... دوم «واتّبعوا الشهوات»؛ دنبال شهوت‌رانیها رفتن؛ دنبال هوسها رفتن و در یک جمله: دنیاطلبی. به فکر جمع‌آوری ثروت، جمع‌آوری مال و التذاذ به شهوات دنیا افتادن. اینهارا اصل دانستن و آرمانها را فراموش کردن. این، درد اساسی و بزرگ است. ما هم ممکن است به این درد دچار شویم.

- In contrast, there has always been a deviant framework; today, that different model for women is the one offered by the west.
- Today, according to the western model, the most sought after characteristics of a woman involve her ability to physically attract men and appease them: one distinct image (portrayed in society) of the western woman is her nudity.
- By promoting modest dress (hijab), Islam has blocked the path which would lead women to such a deviant lifestyle. Hijab is a means of immunity not restriction.
