صاحب تذکرۃ الاولیاء، مشہور صوفی بزرگ، حضرت شیخ فرید الدین محمد عطار نیشاپوری رضی اللہ عنہ کی ولادت شعبان 513ھ میں نیشاپور کے قصبۂ کدکن، خراسان، ایران میں ہوئی۔ آپ ماہر طبی ادویات، صاحب دیوان فارسی شاعر، بہترین ادیب و مصنف اور عارف ربانی تھے۔ بے شمار اکابر و مشائخ کی صحبت پائی اور اہل طریقت کی چار سو کتابوں کا مطالعہ فرمایا اور سترہ سال تک اہل اللہ کے حالات جمع کرتے رہے۔ آپ کی تصانیف میں سے تذکرۃ الاولیاء، اسرار نامہ اور منطق الطیر یادگار ہیں جبکہ مختلف کتب و رسائل میں آپ کے اشعار کی مجموعی تعداد تقریباً ایک لاکھ ہے۔ 29 ربیع الآخر 627ھ بروز جمعرات 114 برس کی عمر میں جام شہادت نوش فرمایا۔ مزار مبارک محلہ شادباغ، نیشاپور، خراسان، ایران میں مرجع خواص و عوام ہے۔ (مرآۃ الاسرار، نفحات الانس، وفیات الاخیار)

Author of Tazkirat al-Awliya, Famous Sufi Gnostic, Sayyiduna Shaykh Fareeduddin Muhammad Attar Neyshapuri (RadiyAllahu Anhu) was born in Sha’ban 513 AH in Kadkan Village of Neyshapur, Khorasan, Iran. He was an expert in medicine, a great literary author of Persian poetry, an eminent writer, and a paramount Sufi gnostic. He was blessed with the company of numerous gnostics and studied 400 books of Ahl al-Tariqah and continued collecting the biographies of the men of Allah for 17 years. Out of all his literary pieces of work, Tazkirat al-Awliya, Asraar Naamah, and Mantiq at-Tayr are well-known books, while the total number of his poetic verses in various books and magazines is about 100,000. He embraced martyrdom on Thursday, 29th Rabi al-Aakhir 627 AH at the age of 114 years.
