خلیفۂ دوم، امیر المؤمنین، غیظ المنافقین، امام المجاہدین، فاروق اعظم، حضرت سیدنا ابو حفص عمر بن الخطاب رضی اللہ عنہ وارضاہ کی ولادت مکہ مکرمہ میں عام الفیل کے تقریباً 13 برس بعد 583ء میں ہوئی۔ آپ حضرت سیِدنا صدیق اکبر کے بعد تمام صحابۂ کرام عليهہم الرِضوان سے افضل ہیں۔ حضور خاتم المرسلین ﷺ کی دعا سے اعلانِ نبوت کے چھٹے سال میں چالیسویں شخص ہیں جو ایمان لائے اور پھر حضور سرور عالم ﷺ کی تمام اسلامی تحریکات اور صلح و جنگ وغیرہ کی تمام منصوبہ بندیوں میں وزیر و مشیر کی حیثیت سے وفادار و رفیقِ کار رہے۔ سیدنا صدیق اکبر کے بعد ان کے نقش قدم پر چلتے ہوئے آپ نے تخت خلافت پر رونق افروز رہ کر جانشینیٔ مصطفی ﷺ کی تمام تر ذمے داریوں کو بطریق احسن سر انجام دیا۔ آپ کی خلافت تقریباً 10 سال 5 ماہ اور 21 روز رہی۔ 26 ذو الحجہ 23ھ بدھ کے دن شدید زخمی ہو کر جام شہادت نوش فرمایا جبکہ یکم محرم الحرام 24ھ بروز اتوار روضۂ رسول میں پیارے آقا و مولا ﷺ اور سیدنا صدیق اکبر کے پہلو میں آرام فرما ہوئے۔ (اسد الغابہ، طبقات ابن سعد، موطا امام مالک)

The Second Caliph, Ameer al-Mu’mineen, Farooq al-A’zam, Sayyiduna Abu Hafs Umar Ibn al-Khattab (RadiyAllahu Anhu wa Ardaah) was born in Makkah Mukarramah, 13 years after the incident of elephants in 583 CE. After Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, he is the most eminent of all noble companions. He was the 40th person to embrace Islam by virtue of the supplication made by the Beloved Prophet and then participated in all Islamic campaigns and the strategic decisions of war and peace led by the Noblest Prophet ﷺ as a faithful minister and comrade. Following the blessed footsteps of Siddiq al-Akbar, he executed all the responsibilities of the caliphate marvelously and proved to be the worthy successor of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ. His reign spanned approximately 10 years, 5 months, and 21 days. He was severely wounded and martyred on Wednesday, 26 Dhu al-Hijjah 23 AH, and was laid to rest in the sacred Prophetic Chamber next to the Beloved Prophet ﷺ and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq on Sunday, 1st Muharram al-Haraam 24 AH.
