From 1 Jan 2023, you will need to pay GST on purchases of imported low-value goods (i.e. goods โ‰ค $400 imported via air/post after being purchased) and non-digital services (e.g. online classes, fitness training over video platforms, professional services and telemedicine) from GST-registered suppliers.

This change will level the playing field for local businesses competing with overseas suppliers, and keep Singaporeโ€™s GST system fair, effective and relevant as the e-commerce economy continues to grow.

๐Ÿšจ IRAS has been alerted of members of the public receiving spoofed emails from IRAS, which attempt to deceive recipients into thinking that the message came from an IRAS officer. Do not click on any links or download the attachment in the spoofed email as they may contain malicious content or malware.

Always key in www.iras.gov.sg or mytax.iras.gov.sg to access the IRAS website or myTax Portal. Be wary when you receive letters or other documents spoofing IRAS, other than those you access through the secured myTax Portal. Do not fall prey to scammers offering tax refunds or threatening to investigate you for incorrect tax filing.

#TaxCrimes Undertaker Sentenced for Evading Income Tax

Tay Chor Ing, Grace, has been sentenced by the Court to 25 days imprisonment and $74,540.25 in penalties after being convicted for an offence for income tax evasion. She had wilfully with intent to evade tax, omitted income of $244,206 (Year of Assessment 2018) from her sole proprietorship, Grace Casket, which resulted in $24,846.75 in taxes undercharged.

The case was uncovered through one of IRASโ€™ audit programmes which run regularly across various industries to ensure tax compliance among individuals, businesses and the self-employed. Audit findings have shown that small businesses with business practices that involve substantial cash transactions, no or poor record-keeping and weak internal controls or processes have greater risk of tax non-compliance.
