InteRussia STEM Fellowship Opens at Skoltech 💡

On September 1, Skoltech hosted the opening ceremony of a fellowship for international specialists in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The program brings together participants from 13 countries.

At the opening ceremony, the participants were welcomed by:
🔵Viktor Vekselberg, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Skoltech;
🔵Yulia Gorbunova, Skoltech President, RAS Academician;
🔵Lyana Dymova, Coordinator of Scientific Programs at the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund;
🔵Denis Stolyarov, Dean of Students, Skoltech;
🔵Anna Salnikova, Head of the Youth Engagement Department at the Public Diplomacy Directorate of Rossotrudnichestvo.

The participants also met the instructors and invited experts who will support them throughout the program, attended their first lectures, took part in a team-building session, and joined a guided tour introducing them to the Skoltech campus and its facilities.

Over the course of the month, the fellows will go through the full innovation cycle — from identifying an idea and understanding the needs of end users to developing and testing a final solution. Working in interdisciplinary teams with the support of instructors and experts will give them hands-on experience in implementing complex projects while strengthening their innovation mindset and teamwork skills ⭐️

The InteRussia fellowship program for foreign specialists in STEM is implemented by the Mezhdunarodniki Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation in cooperation with the Gorchakov Fund and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. The program is implemented as part of Rossotrudnichestvo’s flagship New Generation initiative with grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.

What does it mean to be a young actor today? 🎭

InteRussia fellows continued exploring Russia’s theatre community with a visit to the Russian Theatre Union. There, they met Vladislav Miller, Chairman of the Union’s Youth Council, for a conversation about Russian theatre, its traditions, and the new generation of actors shaping it today.

Vladislav Miller spoke about:

🔴 Oleg Tabakov’s theatre school and its influence on generations of Russian actors;
🔴 how theatrical traditions and professional approaches are passed from one generation to another at the Moscow Art Theatre — which our fellows will be visiting very soon;
🔴 what professional life looks like for young actors in Russia today, from their first steps in the industry to the opportunities available for creative and professional growth.

The fellows brought their own experiences into the conversation, sharing how theatres work back home and comparing the opportunities and challenges young actors face across different countries.

From the Russian Theatre Union — straight behind the curtain 🎉

After meeting representatives of the Russian Theatre Union, InteRussia fellows continued their introduction to its work at “Heritage. Theatre. Greats” — the largest exhibition project in the Union’s history, created to mark its 150th anniversary.

Built as a journey through the backstage world, the exhibition begins where audiences rarely enter — at the stage door. Across 17 thematic sections, the fellows discovered how a performance comes to life long before the curtain rises.

They explored:

⭕️ the work of theatre workshops — from costume, make-up, props, and scenery to lighting, sound, and stage machinery;

⭕️ original costumes, sets, props, and other exhibits from more than 100 theatres across Russia;

⭕️ 150 years of Russia’s theatre community, its legendary figures, theatre families, and traditions passed from one generation to another.

The route eventually leads visitors from backstage onto the stage itself — offering a chance to see theatre not only through the eyes of an actor, but through those of the many professionals whose work usually remains hidden from the audience.
