Cela semble presque absurde.

This would will allow anyone, from disgruntled ex-employees to governments and foreign operatives, to trigger the (at least temporary) removal of any online content they dislike or otherwise wish to suppress. Just flag it as illegal and it is gone. It would allow police (a possible ‘trusted flagger’ under the DSA) to remove YouTube videos that show police violence against demonstrators

If messaging apps like Signal or WhatsApp were covered by the DSA—as proposed by MEP Geoffrey Didier’s draft report in JURI—there would be no legal distinction anymore between something you post publicly, say, on Twitter, and something you say privately in a chat with your partner or best friends.

Every single word you say over WhatsApp or Signal would need to be scanned and analysed for potential illegality under any of the 27 national jurisdictions in the EU. It would be like if the postman was legally required to open every single letter and package and read it before delivering it to the intended recipient.

(Oh wait, someone did this before: the Stasi in Eastern Germany. It’s clearly not something the EU should be aspiring to).

Changes to UK Surveillance Regime May Violate International Law | JusticeOrg -

Blocking End-to-End Encryption and Important Security Updates

The United Kingdom (U.K.) government has recently unveiled plans to revise the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (IPA),  the primary legislation governing the surveillance of electronic communications in the United Kingdom. The proposed revisions include five objectives pertaining to changes in the notices regime within the IPA, the process through which the government can ask private companies to carry out surveillance on its behalf, such as interception of communications and equipment interference (hacking).

The proposed changes to the IPA notices regimes include an obligation to comply with the content of a potential notice during the review period and before a notice is actually served, an obligation to disclose technical information about the company’s systems during the same review period, measures to strengthen the extraterritorial application of the notices and obligations for companies to give advance notice to the U.K. Secretary of State before implementing any technical changes. This article focuses on the latter two changes. It examines how the United Kingdom likely would be in breach of international human rights law

🇵🇸 Meta: Systemic Censorship of Palestine Content | Human Rights Watch –

Meta’s content moderation policies and systems have increasingly silenced voices in support of Palestine on Instagram and Facebook in the wake of the hostilities between Israeli forces and Palestinian armed groups, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today.

The 51-page report, “Meta’s Broken Promises: Systemic Censorship of Palestine Content on Instagram and Facebook,” documents a pattern of undue removal and suppression of protected speech including peaceful expression in support of Palestine and public debate about Palestinian human rights.

Human Rights Watch found that the problem stems from flawed Meta policies and their inconsistent and erroneous implementation, overreliance on automated tools to moderate content, and undue government influence over content removals.

EU probes Telegram, because size matters for regulators • The Register

"The European Union is reportedly looking into messaging app Telegram, and whether it has more users than the platform lets on.

EU officials are currently in discussions with Telegram concerning its user base according to Bloomberg, which cited unnamed sources. While Telegram officially claims it has just 41 million European users, local regulators are skeptical and suspect the actual user amount is higher. This is particularly relevant since platforms with 45 million or more users (termed very large online platforms or VLOPs) operating in the EU are subject to stricter rules of the EU Digital Services Act (DSA)."

Should Telegram be found to have more than 45 million EU users, it would qualify as a VLOP and potentially be responsible for the content hosted on the service.

Running afoul of the DSA could result in big fines up to 6 percent of revenue, or even banishment from the EU, if Telegram refuses to cooperate
