We have been receiving many questions about the Open Doors Scholarship, so we have compiled the most frequently asked questions in this post.

❓If I'm a runner-up, does it mean that I can study at your university?
🗣️: According to the rules, winners and runner-ups have similar rights. However, the number of available places for runner-ups depends on how many places are taken by the winners, as they have the priority in selecting a university.

❓ If I'm a runner-up and I don't get a place, can MEPhI accept me next year without entrance exams?
🗣️ Yes, but only for 2 years. After that you will need to go through the application process again.

❓ What is the difference between the Open Doors Scholarship and the Quota of the Russian Federation?
🗣️ Essentially, there is no major difference, as both provide a free place at the university that is covered by Russia. However, the Open Doors Scholarship has its own selection committee, and we do not have direct contact with them. They only send us the final list of students who have chosen to study at MEPhI. ❓ What stipend will I receive?
🗣️ The monthly stipend for all scholarship or state-funded students, both Russian and international, is 3,600 rubles (approximately $36). However, you can receive up to $200 by actively participating in competitions and extracurricular activities. Additionally, you may seek paid internships or part-time jobs (up to 20 hours per week), such as online language teaching.

❓ Where will I live?
🗣️ All international students are provided with accommodation in the dormitory. The monthly fee ranges from $10 to $15, depending on the type of room. You can find more information and dormitory addresses here: https://eng.mephi.ru/our-community/dorms.

❓ Are there any special benefits if I am from a country that Russia has friendly ties with?
🗣️ Unfortunately, no. However, we are confident that you will receive a high-quality education with us, regardless of your country of origin.

❓ What if my program is in Russian and I don't speak the language? Do I have to pay for a preparatory Russian course?
🗣️ You will need to attend a one-year intensive Russian language program, which is fully covered by your scholarship. If you successfully pass the final exams, you are guaranteed admission to your chosen program without entrance exams.

❓ Do you offer any additional support programs or financial aid?
🗣️ In case of emergency, you can request financial assistance from the university management. However, this support is not regular and the amount is usually modest. Therefore, we strongly recommend planning your finances for living in Russia, even if your tuition is covered.
