β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή Yesterday, February 4th, was World Cancer Day

MEPhI actively contributes to improving cancer treatment by introducing new technologies and approaches to therapy.

🫢 The Institute of Physics and Biomedical Engineering (PhysBio) at MEPhI (https://t.me/physbio_mephi) has been training highly qualified medical physicists for over 20 years, helping in the fight against cancer.

❓What does this look like in practice?

A doctor diagnoses the disease and selects the treatment method. Then, the work of a medical physicist begins. They plan radiation therapy sessions or calculate radiopharmaceutical doses for radionuclide therapy, considering the patient’s individual characteristics. Beyond therapy, medical physicists also play a crucial role in diagnostics, working with MRI, CT, SPECT, and hybrid imaging systems.
"Over the past 20 years, we have trained more than 400 specialists who contribute to effective diagnosis and treatment. Without their expertise, the fight against cancer would be significantly more challenging."

– Alexander Garmash, Director of the Institute of Physics and Biomedical Engineering at MEPhI.
