Yesterday, new U.S. consumer confidence data came out — the index jumped to 98, while the forecast was only 86 (last month it was 85.7).
This is a very good sign: when people feel confident about the future, they spend more — and consumer spending makes up two-thirds of the U.S. economy.
So this kind of sharp increase is a strong and unexpectedly positive signal for the market.

US court blocks most of Trump’s new tariffs
On May 28, 2025, the U.S. Court of International Trade ruled to block the majority of tariffs introduced by the Trump administration since January, stating the president overstepped constitutional limits — with trade powers reserved for Congress.
• A permanent ban applies to all tariffs issued under the IEEPA (emergency economic powers)
• The administration has 10 days to reissue orders that comply with the law
• The White House has already filed an appeal
• Sector-specific tariffs (steel, aluminum, autos) remain in effect under separate legal grounds

China Welcomes U.S. Court Ruling Against Trump Tariffs
Beijing praised the recent U.S. court decision that struck down Trump-era tariffs, urging Washington to remove them entirely.
“Trade wars have no winners,” said Commerce Ministry spokeswoman He Yongqian, calling the measures “misguided” and harmful to global trade and U.S. consumers.
She also criticized ongoing export controls on chip-related goods, labeling them discriminatory and in violation of recent trade agreements.
