The outgoing American ambassador to Zambia, Michael C. Gonzales, has delivered a scathing indictment of President Hakainde Hichilema’s government, accusing it of corruption, dishonesty, and presiding over a selective and politically driven anti-corruption campaign that targets opponents while shielding those in power. He made these remarks in his farewell speech.
He further revealed that Zambia loses over US$4 billion annually through illicit financial flows, money that leaves the country without benefiting the Zambian people, underscoring the scale of systemic failure and weak accountability under the current administration.
